Character Information
Name: Kristen Hale
LJ Username:
kristen_hale House: Hufflepuff
Age/Year: 17 / 7th
Birthdate: November 23, 1988
Bloodline: Muggle
Heritage: German/English
Personal History: Amelia Hale was a high school freshmen in London when she met a boy. He was a senior, cute and popular, and she immediately fell in love with him, like the rest of the school. Eager to do anything to make her fit in, she did everything he asked. Everything. By June of her freshmen year, she was pregnant. She told this boy that it was his child but he didn’t care. He graduated with an athletics scholarship of some sort, and Amelia never saw him again. Amelia did not lose her child though, and gave birth to Kristen Hale on November 23rd of her sophomore year.
Being a single mother is difficult, and Amelia Hale is no exception. Her parents, disgusted by their child being a teenage mother and horrified of the possibility that they would lose their fantastic business reputations because of it, made the arrangements for Amelia to live by her own with her child in a rundown apartment in Manchester. Amelia was forced to drop out of high school and has been working four jobs at a time, mainly as waitresses and cashiers, since Kristen was born.
Kristen isn’t angry with her mother for this. She understands why her mother couldn’t spend too much time for her, and how Amelia still loves Kristen no matter what. Understanding or not, Kristen was still alone for most of the time. She fixed this by joining as many sports teams as she could. She excelled in her dance classes and was one of the best on her soccer/football team, making her mother proud. She also passed the time by talking to any strangers that would reply, finding people in local bookstores and coffee shops to talk to.
When Kristen received her letter from Hogwarts, she was surprised. She, like the other oblivious Muggles, had no idea that magic was real. She was eager to go to this school however, because as far as she could tell, there was no tuition. In her mind, it was the best way to help her struggling mother who would no longer have to feed and take care of Kristen during the school year. She convinced her mother to let her go to this school. She was sorted into Hufflepuff because of her kindness, loyalty, and fairness, and there started the best years of her life. She had no idea she would enjoy being a witch so much!
After six years of potion making, exciting trips to the Forbidden Forest, and Quidditch matches, Kristen has finished her sixth year and is finally entering her seventh and final year at Hogwarts. She’s made many friends throughout the years with her cheerful personality. She is still unsure of what she wants to do when she leaves, her possible career choices varying from professor to Quidditch player.
Personality: Kristen is a kind, bubbly person, always smiling and talking to everyone about anything. She's outgoing and friendly, and is by no means afraid of going up to strangers and starting a conversation with them. She's met many Hogwarts students by simply introducing herself when she sees someone walking down the hallway to the library or their next class. (She's also turned a few less friendly students away from her by being so outgoing, but that's a different story.) She loves an adventure and is always looking for ways to make boring things more interesting, something she has gotten better at over the years.
She wasn't only sorted into Hufflepuff for being nice though. She's loyal to her friends and will always stand up for them, no matter what. Actually, she'll stand up for pretty much everyone that she believes deserves it, friend or not. She's protective of her friends and family, always looking out for what's best for them, although not to the point where she seems overbearing.
Another trait Kristen shares with the Badgers is that she is hardworking. She is by no means the smartest person in the school, learning at a pace much slower than others, but she works hard to stay at the same level as her classmates (...in every class but Arithmancy and Ancient Runes, that is, where she worked hard but couldn't take it anymore. Luckily, she was able to drop Arithmancy in her fourth year and did not receive a passing OWL in Ancient Runes.) This hardworking attitude also shows up in her athletics, like dance, soccer, and Quidditch, where she always gives it her all.
Kristen is not easily annoyed or angered. She acts completely oblivious to any insults towards herself and her happy opinion of these insult-throwers will not change just because they scream and shout at her. The only time she shows any hint of a temper is when her family or friends are being treated unfairly or when a boy hints at a relationship that involves more than being just friends. Luckily for the flirty boys of Hogwarts, Kristen doesn't overreact too badly when a boy flirts with her but she certainly isn't as eager to be said boy's best friend. When someone messes with a friend or family member however, she really does get upset. Not really at the small things, like stealing a pencil or something, but she's not fond of violence and serious bullying.
Physical Description: Kristen is tall for her age, towering over many of the girls and some of the guys at 5'10". She believes that she must have inherited this from her father because her mother is only 5'2". Her mother doesn't discuss her father however, and Kristen has never found a good time to ask.
Kristen is naturally thin for her height, no diets or anything, just high metabolism, weighing 133 pounds. She has blue eyes and long, blonde hair. She has a slightly athletic build from all of the sports she played as a child and continues to play now.

Kristen smiled as the first years began to file into the Great Hall for the first time. She clearly remembered the first time she had walked into this same hall. It was exactly five years ago, when all she knew about the wizarding world was what her Hogwarts Express buddies had told her. She had been so amazed by everything she saw, especially the enchanted ceiling. In fact, she had been so mesmerized by the ceiling that she was uncharacteristically clumsy, tripping over her long robes and falling face flat onto the floor. The professors had decided to let her be sorted last, to give her time to recover.
She shook away the bad memory that had caused her so much teasing for the first week of her Hogwarts life, and just crossed her fingers and hoped that the same wouldn't happen to the newest batch of frightened yet amazed Gryffindors, Hufflepuffs, Slytherins, and Ravenclaws.
