I needed somewhere to spill my thoughts and feelings about the mid-season finale from Tuesday night so here we go. It should be obvious, but be warned--spoilers ahead!!!
I totally agree about CeCe Drake and all your points about how it would be nice to show that "she was crazy because of the neglect and abuse she suffered, NOT because she was trans." The message gets warped and confused and suddenly trans = mental issues, which is not the right message that people should take from this, especially an impressionable adolescent audience who will form their fundamental views of the world during this crucial time (also, don't get me started on Ezra/Aria... what other underage girl did he hook up with?)
Admittedly I stopped watching the show after season 4, and I forget a lot of the details of it. I just didn't have the patience for all the baiting and waiting....
I really wish it was something creepier... like A as Aria and she had a split personality. Which would be amazing lol. I love weird shit like that.
I understand that they wanted this whole "she was neglected and not treated like a human being by her own parents, because they couldn't deal with her being trans, and that's why we should feel sad for her" but to then take that and say "therefore she became this murderous psycho and that's kind of ok" is a huge leap to take with an audience that thinks a stalker teacher is romantic. And Ezra was initially sniffing around Alison. He found out that she was underage, and the producers backpedaled and had Ali tell the audience that she had never ACTUALLY slept with him, but...I'm still not ok with it. His obsession with Ali led to him preying on Aria
