The writing in this episode was SO BAD. I mean, even putting aside all the problematic fail (which, unfortunately, is more or less to be expected), what purpose did this episode serve? Have we been due for a hailstorm of anvils?
I don't get it. It's frustrating that the show can be SO GOOD sometimes and so... really really not good at others.
It's the writers. This is the same duo that wrote "After School Special," which I also thought was a good concept badly executed. It seems like they only watched up to the first couple of episodes of season 3, the way they characterize Dean and Sam--or that they just flat out don't understand the emotional arc of the show. Sera needs to slap them both around the head a few times and then put them back in Characterization 101.
Oh, you mean the teenage exclamations of "I'M NOT A LOSER I'M A HERO!" writers? Ahahahahaha. Yup. That explains it.
It felt like this episode was about a season and a half behind the emotional arc of the show, which is so disappointing, because it could have been a good ep. It could have been creepy and scary and intense and everything. It just... wasn't.
Thank you, yes.Repetitive. Also, depressing as all hell. I liked the SamnDeanishness of the ep ("Boop!") but they're so broken and sad and yep, codependent and this is not my happy place.
I know, right? I don't need to be told (again. And Again.) that they're all kinds of messed. I want them to sort themselves out because the life may suck, but it's THEIRS and that makes it some kind of awesome.
My biggest issue was that I honestly felt they broke character, especially during the "i love you scene." Maybe I need to step away from the J2, but that's how it rang to me, not like Sam and Dean.
I really didn't need such an epic rehashing of their issues, ESPECIALLY Dean's. We get it, they're fucked up, which is sort of why we like them but can we get on with the friggin' apocalypse now?
