Ooh, nice. I really like how you used so few words to create tension and the overall mood, and I loved Sam's little smile at the end. Go, Sam, go!

I especially enjoyed this bit:

A blaze of glory, guns and guts and the rest of the world be damned. Talons and teeth, angry sprits and things that crawl out of the dark. Holding the retreat for frightened children, the wrong fight, in the wrong bar, on the wrong stormy night.

Great imagery there.
