The Kind Of Person I Am

Today I checked out books from the library. They still have circulation cards in the back, although they're just used to remind you when the due date is. This has the side effect, though, of letting you know when they were last checked out. I have three books, and their last-out dates are 2007, 2006, and 1998 ( Read more... )

Yeah, I've had that happen, but only a couple of times. Once I felt very smug about it because I caused the library to acquire the book in question. Totally sympathize with "why has no one used these ideas" - that's part of why my response is what it is. The three books today are all popularizations (on the crunchy side, but still).

Current Music: Jake Kaufman - Jungle 2

I have to know which virt-soundtracked game you're listening to there. I've got Shantae and Drymouth and that title fits neither....

Contra 4! Jungle 2 is a straight remix of the first level of the first Contra, and it's pretty dang good. I found the game via the TAS, which is good fun. Here's where I found the soundtrack for download.

Ah, right! I forgot that one. I do have it, in fact. Also, he did Scurge: Hive which I recommend highly.

Oh man, yes. Or when my mom would tell me that no one had checked out a given book for years.

Ah, you have family in the library professions?

I have an "aunt" librarian, who is awesome. She looks nothing like Mo from DTWOF, though, who is one of the Librarian Archetypes in my brain.

My mom's worked in a library her entire adult life, though she never got her Masters so she's not a librarian.

I do the same thing! Also, thanks for the reminder- I have along-overdue book I checked out from the Sac State library back in May that needs returning. Well, needs reading too, but I don't get fined for not reading.

I'm surprised they're still there. Most systems do regular weeding, and books that don't circ don't stay very long.

Well, it's an academic library, I suspect that their keep/pitch judgments are on a (slightly) more lenient standard. My ego also tells me that these are Significant books, but that's a slightly suspect judgement no matter how much I like them.

Ah, yes, academic libraries march to a completely different beat. So Significant they probably are, although perhaps for different reasons than yours.
