Pity about the meh. Glad you did like it better than the first and that you think you might read more Artemis Fowl, pity it was still meh. Hope that the next will be better for you again.
Words fail me at Grossman's description of Estonian, and at Mallory's names for foreigners. I don't suppose they were assumed names for foreign parts either?

I would have been prepared to let the "Trent" slide at first as it's quite possible a person who has emigrated to the US as a child adopts a more American-sounding name, even without it being mentioned in the book.
But then came the "Gwynn" with no explanation for her origin apart from "having an Eastern European accent", and then when we met "Grimley Jones, the Scandinavian warlock in charge of all Scandinavia", with whom the main male hottie spoke "a Scandinavian language" to explain some goings-on. So by the end and with no explanation for why everyone foreign has a name more suited for people from English-speaking countries, I just assumed it never even occurred to the author that by and large, foreigners tend to have slightly different names.

It's a long book (the longest yet), so it'll probably take a while to listen to, but so worth it.
My biggest problem with it is having to wait for the next one now...
