Somehow, I am thinking that "barcode scanner" and "in/out of inventory" buttons may be a good investment (and a reason to accidentally some code).

In/out button is part of the plan, yeah. Barcode scanners... a lot of them don't have barcodes, alas, but maybe, or use a barcode scanner app for my phone.

Barcode scanner app in a phone is the way to go if you want to do it cheaply -- I did some quickie consulting to a friend of mine who had to create modern warehouse management out of nearly-nothing with resources of "less than thousand bucks" to satisfy his boss (notorious penny-pincher in wrong places), and cheap wifi-only 'droid tablet + free barscanner app + free office app turned out to be the best possible solution to this.
