I can't think of a good introduction, so I'm just going to jump into it with a picture:

My new monitor came in the mail today. It cost about $230 after shipping and I was allowed to use some of my student refund money for it. I haven't gotten to play with it too much yet (besides what I like to call "Operation: Try to figure out how in the world to fit this huge thing into my desk") but so far it seems pretty awesome. It's a 21-inch (19.8 viewable) flat-screen CRT and right now I'm running it at 1600x1200@85hz, which beats the pants off of my old monitor in pretty much every way imaginable. I know it was a little hard to see the difference in actual screen size in the side-by-side shot, so here's a little better comparison:

It's about 3 inches taller and 2 inches wider. That's a lot of extra real-estate. You may be asking "Why? Why would anybody care about a bigger monitor and higher resolutions?" Because it's huge, that's why. And at the next LAN party when back is breaking trying to move this huge thing in and out of car, I won't feel bad, because I'll know that I am being permanently disfigured under 81 pounds of pure awesome.
