Hey Kristen--

I'm doing a project on the portrayal of "ethnic" masculinity in mainstream animated movies directed towards children. I was wondering if DreamWorks is associated with Disney, or what you know about Dreamworks. Also, is Pixar owned by Disney?

Thanks

aylen! how I love you!
this project sounds AWESOME. I'm really interested.

recently, pixar and disney merged together. it was a huge deal because pixar used to be owned by disney during the toy story films, a bug's life, and I think another film as well... but anyway, after their contract expired, pixar refused to sign on with disney again. they wanted to be independent. but, only a month or two ago, disney and pixar finally made an agreement to merge, and now pixar owns about half the company. so, in a way, yes, pixar is owned by disney. this is why you still see "disney presents a pixar film" on the pixar titles.

as for dreamworks, they're not affiliated with disney, although many of the people who have worked on dreamworks films have disney roots (this is also true for pixar). so dreamworks films still have a heavy disney influence. dreamworks is owned by george lucas and steven spielberg and some other bloke I forget right now.

if you have more questions, PLEASE ask me. I'd be more than happy to help you in any way I can!
