Despite my intentions I have been watching New New Who and other than falling in love with Rory, the most dominant emotion the series has invoked in me is a deep nostalgia for RTD's Who and makes me badly miss Doctor/Rose. And so I have decided to re-watch series one and two and post Doctor/Rose picspams and my thoughts on each episode. I've ( Read more... )

I really miss RTD Doctor Who too. It actually conveyed emotion, and while I love this new series so much for it's plot and the general mind fuck of this whole series, I miss the emotion that used to run through every episode.

Especially this last episode with the "Time Lord." If that had been an RTD episode, it would have been so much more powerful. I think that it had so much potential, but just fell flat :[

and I miss Ten/Rose so, so much. I can't wait for you to get to S2 in your picspams, although I do love me some Nine/Rose. She was so young and carefree and perfect.

You did a great job :)

Yeah, I find that I can't get emotionally invested in the character. Although Eleven has been growing on me more and more and I think Matt Smith plays him brilliantly, there's still something missing there.

And yes, I think Amy's Choice is a perfect example of this. I really liked the ep on first watch when I had no clue what was going on but when I re-watched it know that the Dream Lord was the Doctor, it kind of lost the thrill and I'm left kind of baffled by it. The Doctor's self-loathing makes sense to me and I do like the progress in Amy and Rory's relationship but yeah, I think you're right, an episode like this in the RTD era would have held (and sustained) more of an emotional punch.

I don't know, I've always felt that episodes in RTD era provided for great character analysis on re-watch, while pretty much all of the episodes in the Moffat era make my head spin when I try to analyze them.

Thank you! Re-living the Doctor/Rose is so much fun. :)

Great review, I feel like you stole my brain for some of it, I thought all the same things about all the same details.
