crazy airline computations

We just bought Christian's flights this winter from Lyon to Buffalo to Mexico to NJ to Lyon again. This took several hours because we had to coordinate with Christian's grant's PI and we also finagled where he'd fly to after Mexico (originally Buffalo, but it made more sense as NJ and then for the two of us to separately book holiday travel from NJ ( Read more... )

It gets even better. We had to wait up to 24 hours for the reservation to get ticketed since Continental had to confirm the flights with its partner airline Swiss, because one leg was a Swiss flight. When we got the email confirming the flight was ticketed, the final cost was another $400 less. I'm guessing it's some issue with Continental not being able to compute its fares correctly based on the quotes given by its partner airlines, but it's really quite strange.
