Spain: Day 9. Nerja

Sunday, February 7. There's a large network of caves with limestone stalactites and stalagmites near Nerja, so we went on a morning hike to get there. The walk along the coastline was pleasant and we rewarded ourselves with a lunch before heading to the caves. They were fairly large and contained the impressive rock formations you'd expect. I was just thinking how lucky we are to have jobs that allow us to take most of a week to travel and go to the beach (and no children or other obligations that would stop us from doing it). It makes up for a lot of the disadvantages of being an academic.

Nicely phrased description of the use of German in Nerja, by the way!

it seriously does. Places are so much nicer to visit when they're not overrun with tourists. And hotels are cheaper too! This is one of my favorite aspects of being an academic: that you get to travel a lot, like businesspeople, except you usually can hook on a few days to actually visit and see the sights, which businesspeople can't do.
