Poland and the EU

For those of you who have been following the news about the EU deliberations, Poland's refusal to agree to the new voting system stirred up quite a lot of anger. They're argument was that the new voting system, based on population, would give Germany considerably more power and lower Poland's sway in the EU. I am not sure I understand your cooments. Of course the EU objections are to the Kaczynskis and their policies. Who said otherwise? Western Europe does not believe we are more "mature" because our economies are stronger, but because we do not pass anti-gay laws that not even Bush would dare to propose. We object to those laws. What is wrong with that? If the EU claims that to be a member you have to support civil rights for all and be against any kind of discrimination, I say right on. This has absolutely nothing to do with the voting system, by the way ( ... )

Neat link to the history of Polish pilots during WW2. I guess they fought alongside my grandfather, who flew a B-17.

And I'll be flying to Poland in a week! I'm pretty excited, but worried because I don't know the language. I'd wanted to learn more phrases but I haven't had time. You can tell, though, that Poland's had a bad time of it when the second vocabulary item in the "tourism" section of the phrasebook is "invasion" (inwazja).

Any tips on things not miss while I'm in Krakow?
