The real problem is actually beyond spiders. I had an exterminator come to my last apartment to clear the ants out of Lisa's room. We had little baby spiders too. The exterminator said that the ants eat the spiders, who actually live in the wood when it begins to rot. Many Berkeley houses/apartments have rotting wood and this isn't too much a surprise in a bathroom. The spiders get into the wood to eat little tiny termites. I hope this ISN'T the case at Vicky's, but who knows. I would check into it.
