Simon Fuller probably had a 'Kris Allen snuck out of the mansion at night and got himself mugged in an alleyway, how tragic, yay Adam is the American idol' story all typed out and ready to go to the press.

I would not put it past the man.

700 words.

Fashionable layering could hide a multitude of sins-or bloodstains. Which is why Kris was regretting having walked out the door that morning in only jeans and a t-shirt.

Kris slumped against an alley dumpster, grit and god-knows-what stained his ripped shirt and the chill of cold metal seeped into his back. He pressed one shaky hand to the scratches on his hip. They weren’t too deep, but they stung and his jeans were only aggravating the wounds. It didn’t feel like the worst of his injuries though; dark bruises mottled his arms, wrapped around his wrists and made his hands numb. Blood soaked the thin fabric just below his collarbones and Kris couldn’t see, but he was sure his neck didn’t look any better-in fact, it probably looked worse.

Damn vampires. Kris had never had a problem with them until now. Until Adam, his brain supplied.

Adam. He should call Adam. Did the vamp take his cell? Were the paparazzi still camped out across the coffee shop ( ... )

It's the sort of shot a paparazzo would sell his liver to get. Adam spilled over the sheets - limbs akimbo - his dark hair spread over the pillows while his eyelashes fan his cheeks in sleep. It would be a pretty picture (sellable but not the kind that brings in the big bucks) if it wasn't for the scrapes on his chest, the gauze wrapped around his right forearm, and the bruise marring his forehead.

If it made the circuit the headlines would scream of drugs and abuse, vile and insinuating. Hints would be made towards the state of his marriage, someone would dig up that old picture of Kris wielding a broken bottle, public opinion would be swayed, and it would take months to repair the damage.

Kris doesn't take a picture. He leans against the doorpost and watches Adam's chest rise and fall in peaceful cadence. He should make a noise, alert Adam to the fact that he dropped everything to get here as fast as he could, or crawl into bed and kiss that much missed mouth, but he doesn't because he's terrifiedHe was scared to begin with ( ... )
