Prompt 5 -
Carnival kissing booth AU: Kris gets talked into manning the dollar kissing booth for a college fundraiser. Adam’s got $100 in his pocket and takes full advantage ;)

"Okay sweetie, so I’ll be gone about thirty minutes, okay?"

Kris looks down at himself; he’s covered in dust and Lord knows what else. It’s been a long day. "Can’t Joy do it?" he hears himself ask weakly. He knows that it’s no use, though. Katy has that determined look in her eye, and besides, she’s already gathering up her bag.

Katy pauses to swipe some lip gloss over her mouth. "Kris, really? I’ve been doing this all day. I just need to get something to eat and I’ll be back." She laughs. "Don’t worry, it’s a really quiet time and, oh my gosh! You’re scared of giving out some kisses?"

Kris bites his lower lip because actually, he really isn’t that keen. "It’s just-I don’t think that I look up to the part. Shouldn’t they be getting their money’s worth?"

"It’s not your clothes they’re after," Katy jokes, and kisses him on the cheek. "I’ll rescue you in half an hour okay? Joy!"

She links arms with her friend, and all Kris can see is the toss of her blond pony-tail and the sound of her giggle as they make their way into the crowd and he’s now irrevocably stuck--in a kissing booth, of all places. Kris shrinks behind the sign, trying to make himself as inconspicuous as possible.

He groans softly. A quiet time? The crowd is thick as a swarm of bees after honey; they all know that Katy’s working this booth and-Kris is kind of freaking a bit now, actually.

"Well. The fundraiser just got a whole lot more interesting."

Kris nearly jumps out of his skin, because damn, it looks like he has his first line up already. That’s his initial reaction, but then he processes that it’s a guy, so. He doesn’t have to worry. In fact, if he keeps the guy talking, maybe people won’t even realize that the booth is still open for business.

Kris sits back on his heels and takes the stranger in. He’s tall and solid, with tight jeans and a standard college shirt. There's a lot of necklaces with wierd astrology signs looped around his neck, and he sure doesn't look like any of Kris's friends. His bangs fall into his eyes but that can’t hide the fact that they’re blue-and looking into Kris’s with a really friendly expression. Kris clears his throat.

"Actually, you’re out of luck. My girlfriend-I mean, the person that’s in charge of the booth is gone for a bit. You could hang around here until she gets back though," Kris says hopefully.

The guy laughs. "I think I might just do that." He sticks out a large paw and Kris grabs it across the flimsy counter. "I’m Adam."

"Kris," says Kris. “Nice to meet you."

"So what are you doing here then?" Adam asks. "If your girlfriend’s gone out, why didn’t she get a friend to cover?"

Kris rolls his eyes and laughs. "I knoooow, right? It's only our second date too, so I don't know how I got roped in. It's just-everyone’s busy and although you wouldn’t think taking over’s a hardship or anything, it just seems kind of unfair to people to have to kiss-"

"Wait up," Adam says, holding up a hand to shut Kris’s babble. "You’re manning the booth?"

"Well, yeah," Kris says doubtfully, because, isn’t that obvious?

"So technically, you’re on duty?" Adam asks, grinning.

Kris grins back because Adam’s smile is pretty infectious. "I’m aware it's for a good cause but I’d much rather play my guitar for the fundra-

"I want to buy a kiss," Adam says, and Kris suddenly has no idea what he was about to say about his guitar.

"Huh?" Kris begins and then stops to shake his head. "I mean-I think Katy’s who you’re wanting?"

"I’m sure Katy’s very sweet," Adam says softly. Kris practically has to lean across the counter to hear him. "But no. You’re a great deal prettier."

Kris feels the flush creeping up his neck, burning his cheeks until it’s reaching his ears. He doesn’t know what to say, so he just stands awkwardly, scuffing his feet. "I-I don’t think I’m all that good looking-" he manages.

Adam snorts a little. "Okay, so I thought you’d be getting more upset about the fact that I’m offering to buy kisses off you than talking about how cute you are; that’s kind of refreshing."

Kris looks up, eyes wide. "Are you for real? I don’t care about that," he says, the words tumbling over each other because, he really doesn't want Adam to think-

Adam smiles. "I didn’t mean to scare you," he says. "I was just-"

"Oh, you didn’t--" Kris shakes his head-why is Adam apologizing for being sweet? "I just wasn’t expecting you to want to buy one."

Adam rolls his eyes. "We’re at a kissing booth, dude. I saw you standing there; it’s for a really good cause-"

Kris looks down at his hands again. He feels guilty, because Katy has been working all morning kissing guys for the fundraiser, and what does he do? Turn away the first person who offers. "I don’t mind-" he hears himself saying. "I mean-it wasn’t because you’re a guy-- I just get nervous in situations like this." Kris feels comfortable now though, actually. He’s been chatting for a while and it’s not like Adam’s a stranger-he feels like a friend.

"Won’t Katy mind?" Adam says, and there’s a strange expression on his face as he watches Kris.

"Well, we’ve only been on two dates," Kris explains. "I mean-I like her, but Mom told me to date around a bit before-what I’m trying to say," he corrects himself, "is if she minded? I wouldn’t want to date her anyway. I hate that kind of shit."

Adam’s mouth quirks a bit. "I really like you," he says.

Kris finds himself grinning goofily back because it's fun to hang out with Adam; he really seems to like Kris and Kris can’t figure why, because he knows just how boring he is in real life. Adam, though, seems really interesting; the sort of person that Kris hopes will hang out with him after this whole stupid day is over.

"Me, too," he replies. "And well-you’re here, so. Go for it. It’s a dollar a kiss."

Adam gapes, and then his whole face seems to change and he doubles over with laughter. Kris stares because Adam’s even slapping his leg, he apparently finds it so funny and Kris really doesn’t get the joke, because he’s serious.

"How are you real?" Adam manages after a minute of insane laughter. "Okay. Okay, why the hell not? For the fundraiser, right?"

"It’s for a good cause," Kris agrees, although he doesn’t understand how that happened; now he’s the one using the fundraiser so that Adam will kiss him.

"A dollar a kiss, right?" Adam says.

"Yeah," Kris answers. "But don’t waste your money all at once, okay? You might hate it."

Adam looks like he’s going to laugh again and is manfully resisting; instead, he takes a dollar out of his back pocket and slides it across the counter.

Kris puts it away and then he fidgets, because regardless of who he’s meant to be kissing, he’s finding this so awkward.

"Are you okay?" Adam says gently, and when Kris looks up, Adam is looking concerned.

"Of course!" Kris says, because he so doesn’t want to seem like some idiot in front of Adam.

He has a feeling Adam’s not completely convinced but then Adam’s leaning in, so Kris leans in too.

Kris isn’t sure what to expect but although it’s not like Katy’s kisses (or Sue, the other girl he’s kissed before back in high school), at the start, it’s nothing out of the ordinary. It’s warm lips, gentle and resting against his own. Then Kris feels Adam’s hand sliding around the back of his neck, just enough so that Kris’s head tilts back slightly. Adam’s lips are parted, and he mouths gently at Kris’s bottom lip which is unexpected. What’s really the surprise though, is the heat that’s pooling in Kris’s groin with the action, because, however inexperienced Kris is at manning kissing booths, he’s pretty sure that having a physical reaction shouldn’t be in the equation.

Kris is aware that he should be controlling the kiss, because it’s his booth, after all, but he’s just thrown so completely off guard and besides, Adam really seems to know what he’s doing. When he feels the tip of Adam’s tongue in a wordless query, Kris just goes with the flow, and opens his mouth because if Adam is this good at a closed-mouth kiss-

When Adam’s tongue meets his, Kris can't help starting, because it’s like a jolt of electrical current that he’s really not prepared for. He doesn’t back off though, because it’s too late to stop, and besides, Kris can’t. The kiss deepens, and he’s hazily aware of the rushing in his head and the shocked sound he makes when Adam pulls back slightly to nip at his mouth, before going back in again. Kris knows that he’s practically hanging over the kissing booth now, both hands gripping the front of Adam’s shirt, but it’s all Adam’s fault for being such a good kisser and making him dizzy, so Kris just hangs on and runs with it; it’s impossible to do anything else.

Adam’s the one who breaks the kiss, which in hindsight, is a good thing, Kris tells himself. Unless that’s the kind of thing that turns Katy on, Kris thinks, and now he’s totally making up excuses to kiss Adam again.

"Are you okay?" Adam asks again.

"Um," Kris says. He’s suddenly aware that he’s hasn’t taken his eyes off Adam’s mouth. Adam’s lips are redder and shiner than before. The bottom lip looks slightly swollen. Kris rubs his hand across his own mouth without thinking properly.

Adam smiles slightly. "How much longer do you have to do this for?"

Kris considers, because if Adam tries to kiss him again-"Um. Not long?"

"Because I totally plan on having my fortune read. I love that kind of stuff; do you?" Adam asks.

It’s really not what Kris is into, but it sounds like it would be a fun thing to do, if only because he thinks that hanging out with Adam would be really cool. If he’s honest though, Kris has a feeling that he needs to have a talk with Katy first about what's been happening while she's been gone. They’re not dating exclusively, but still.

"Can I meet you there in an hour?" he replies hopefully, and when Adam smiles back, Kris feels this weird flow of energy all the way down to his toes.

"It’s a date," Adam answers."I mean-it’s not a date-date-"

"No, it’s cool," Kris says, and the butterflies in his stomach are so stupid. “That sounds really cool,” he repeats, like an idiot.

"Okay. Cool," Adam says, and then he takes out a bill and puts it on the counter.

Kris gapes down at it, because it’s a hundred dollar bill and just-whoa. He looks up at Adam. "Is this for the fundraiser?" he asks.

Adam shrugs a little. "We wouldn’t want to let them down, and well, maybe after the fortune teller I can book you up for the rest of the night in kisses-unless that’s too many--"

Kris sucks in his breath a little at the thought of another ninety-nine kisses from Adam. It may well be the end of him. "That could work," he manages. "I’ll sort it out with-I’ll tell Katy. We wouldn’t want to let the fundraiser down."

Adam smiles. "Exactly."
