Rating: PG13 for language and some suggestive situations. (I suck at writing sex scenes, so nothing R or NC17)
Summary: Kris has been in denial about his sexuality since he was a teenager, but a potentially deadly fever (and a lot of Adam) is going to change that.

Author's Notes/Warnings: This fic was inspired by the AMAZINGLY talented astolat 's Cookleta fic "Real Forever If". Just so ya know - I felt free to change the facts around and make stuff up wherever it suits my twisted needs - that includes song choices, religions, and just about anything else. Previous chapters can be found in my personal journal.
Adam and Kris became the hottest, most talked about couple in America. Tabloids, magazines, and entertainment news shows were scrambling for anything on Kradam that they could get, and making a few things up when they couldn't find anything else. When the media tried to say that there was a problem between the couple and Danny, the Wisconsin man stepped forward to nip that rumor in the bud.
"Kris has a physical condition that could kill him if it weren't for Adam's help," He told a reporter at the Top Eight after party. "They barely knew each other when Kris was diagnosed. Adam could have just fluffed it off, knowing he wouldn't be around to see the end results. But Adam isn't that kind of person and our Heavenly Father will bless him for that. I just hope it turns into love for both of them, because love between two consenting adults is never wrong."
The couple seemed to become an inspiration for other gay celebrities, causing them to come out of the closet in droves. Gerard Way and Frank Iero left their respective wives to move in together. Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki finally admitted to their romance on the pages of People magazine. Wentworth Miller appeared hand in hand on the red carpet with his scriptwriter boyfriend. Rob Pattinson told Rolling Stone that he was looking for a guy who would get a little rough with him. Harry Potter fans were shocked when Tom Felton and Dan Radcliffe admitted that they'd been lovers for two years. Jaws dropped when Justin Timberlake announced that he and Nick Carter were getting back together. Apparently, Justin's relationship with Britney had been a cover up for the two male pop stars. Slash fiction fans were going a little more crazy with each revelation.

American Idol was down to the Top Four - Adam, Kris, Allison, and Matt. Danny's elimation the week before was this season's big shock. It was the Saturday before their Rock Week performance and Adam's friend Cassidy was joining them for lunch after personally delivering twelve leather jackets (one for each individual performance, one each for the duets, and one each for the group song) made by his clothing company - skin.graft.
"We have the hottest clothes EVER on American Idol!" Allison crowed. "Thank you sooo much Cassidy!"
"Not a problem," Cassidy grinned at her. "You guys are all part of my circle now, whether you like it or not."
"Seems like Kris wants to be a part of that circle for a long time," Matt commented.
"Yeah, a little strange - don't ya think?" Cassidy casually asked.
"What?" Kris looked from Matt to Cassidy.
"Guys," There was a warning in Adam's voice. He didn't want Kris to be scared or think he was doing something wrong.
""Its nothing major," Matt told Kris. "You just seem to be more attached to Adam than most Bayard's victims are to their objects."
"I am?" Kris directed his question to Adam.
"Most of the time, its merely a physical thing," Adam admitted. "There usually aren't any feelings involved and the victim is able to detach as soon as the Fever is gone."
"But I....we...." Kris wasn't sure what to say.
"Its only fair," Cassidy said to Matt. "Adam is more attached to Kris than I've ever seen him with any other guy before."
"Cassidy!" Adam sounded totally exasperated.
"Awww, that's so cute!" Allison squealed.
"Is that true?" Kris had eyes only for Adam.
"Yeah, I guess it is," Adam confessed. "I didn't want to push you or hope for something that may not happen once the Fever is gone."
"I'm in love with you Adam," Kris spoke quietly, inwardly cursing the timing of this revelation. They really didn't need their friends watching this. "I am totally, completely head over heels for you."
"Oh baby, I love you so much!" Adam melted, pulling Kris into his arms. "I can't even imagine my life without you, now." Their audience of three applauded them. Adam flipped them all off as he kissed Kris hungrily.

The Results Show sent Matt home that week, and Allison was eliminated the following week. It was Adam and Kris standing tall in the Final Two. The moment had arrived, time to crown a new American Idol. Ryan stood beside them under the blindingly bright lights, holding the results in his hand.
"This is absolutely the closest voat that American Idol has ever had," Ryan told the millions watching nationwide. "I want to emphasize that the difference is a mind boggling 511 votes, it was THAT close. Adam, Kris - are you ready?" Both men nodded, eyes locked on each other - not really caring which one of them won at this point. "OK. The winner of the 8th season of American Idol is.................................Adam Lambert!"
