Part 4 “This is Adam Lambert. Simon gave me your number. Please call.” Adam can only hope that David calls him back. He doesn’t want to leave more on a message just in case, but if he doesn’t hear back he might.
He’s in the middle of Idol business when his phone rings. The display says David C. and Adam takes off answering his phone as he looks for a private corner. He’ll make excuses to the producers later. This is more important.
“Adam Lambert” he answers.
“It’s David. You called me.” David answers.
“I realize I don’t know you, but we met once. I seriously had no idea who to call, but you know the Idol machine.” Adam explains. “I don’t expect you to have an answer but you can call people I can’t.”
“Wait, wait.” David cuts in. “I’m feeling a little lost here.”
“I need the number of a hollywood approved psychologist who can help a closeted gay man deal with having being sexually assaulted.” Adam explains. David is stunned.
“Jesus. You called me?” David questions.
“This is exactly the kind of thing contestants are supposed to keep locked up so tight no one has clue. You know how Idol is. It was you or Elton John. I thought of Ellen but she would count as unauthorized media. I’m completely in over my head. Please.” Adam knows he doesn’t sound composed, probably a little desperate, but if he can’t find some one he’s on his own and that scares him.
“I’ll see what I can do.” David doesn’t know what the answer is but he knows he’s going to try. “There have been far more gay and bi Idol contestants then Idol will ever let on. They will cover up as much of this as they can if they get wind. I’ve seen first hand, and heard, that they will have their best interests at heart and not this contestants.”
“God. Thank you, and thanks for the advice.” Adam’s relief is clear in his tone.
“We try and help each other. There’s actually a secret gay Idols society.” David mentions.
“Seriously?” Adam says in surprise.
“Consider this your official invite. You’ll get another one your last night on the show. I think our inside man just might surprise you.” David spoke with a laugh. “This invites for your friend as well, when he’s ready, and if there’s any other contestants to pass this on to go ahead.”
“I, oh.” Adam caught the our. “So, if you don’t mind, gay or bi? I don’t like to presume.” Even when I know. Adam thought to himself. David certainly wasn’t gay.
“Bi.” David answers.
There’s a banging on the locked bathroom door and a voice asking if Adam’s okay. The person doesn’t sound happy and Adam suddenly realizes how long it’s been.
“The Idol people found me. I’d better go make excuses.” Adam explains. “Thank you so much for your help. If I can ever return the favor let me know.”
“Good luck with your friend. I’ll call as soon as I figure something out. If it’s not going well I’ll give you an update. Don’t forget to take care of yourself.” David answers.
“Thanks.” Adam responds before hanging up the phone.
