~Too Much To Ask~ Avril Lavigne
They're sitting on the couch, not looking at each other. When it comes time for his performance, Kris stands, shoves his hands into his pockets and offers an awkward smile. Adam looks at him and the corner of his mouth eases up.
Kris gives his all that night.
It's not enough.
Not compared to him.
Adam is so much better than the rest of them; he deserves to win so much that they can't even resent him for the advantage. But that doesn't stop Adam from suffering the same worries about who'll go home. They've told him he doesn't have to worry, and his only response is to look at Kris and say that he's not worrying for himself.
~Start The Party~ Camp Rock Soundtrack
All of the top 13 are celebrating. It's supposed to be a celebration, because hey, they made it; but truth be told, Kris is so worried about the coming weeks he doesn't feel they should be unwinding. Especially at the very beginning.
His phone buzzes in his pocket, but he ignores the text from Katy, going to lean against the wall and watch as Megan and Allison make enough noise for twice as many girls.
A breath ghosts against his ear. "Kris Allen."
~Why Is Love So Hard To Find?~ Jesse McCartney
When Adam first learns that his pristine roommate is married, he can't help laughing. Not the appropriate response to recent matrimony, it turns out.
"What's so funny?" Kris looks puzzled, more than annoyed. Adam doesn't think he's yet seen him irritated, though he acknowledges that a few days' acquaintance is not the best basis for character judgement.
"You would be married, huh." Adam can't help the way his lips curve at the end.
As Kris asks what he means, Adam shakes his head and turns to rifle through his clothes. The boy doesn't want to hear what Adam knows; his life's foundations are still brand-new. He doesn't want to hear that the ones deepest in denial usually have to hide behind something.
~Otherside~ Third Day
"You're so shallow." The girls are making fun of Adam, again.
"Don't even, hypocrites. You squeal over every person you meet on the basis of how hot they are; I'm allowed the same privelege."
"We don't squeal over everyone. Look at Kris; he's married, so we leave him alone!"
Unconsciously, his back to them, Kris twists the band on his finger.
Adam laughs. "Then I'm definitely less shallow than you, Megan, because I don't let something as common as marriage get in the way of my attentions."
As everyone twitters uncomfortably, Kris twists and meets Adam's eyes. He knows that if Adam keeps pushing, marriage won't stop him either.
~I'm A Bitch~ Meredith Brooks
He's calling Katy, fingers shaking on the buttons. He doesn't stop to think that it's the middle of the night and she, like the good little girl she is, will be in bed.
There's no answer.
He jumps as a hand reaches over his shoulder to grab the phone. "She didn't answer?"
He doesn't look at Adam. "She's asleep."
"So why did you call?"
"She's my wife. It's normal to want to talk."
Adam laughs at him. "Do you think she'll give you permission?"
"I'm not looking for permission!" Kris meets his eyes furiously.
"So why'd you call the her at half past midnight? You were looking for something."
Kris can't answer, and as Adam pushes him to the bed he tries to console himself that his apologies to Katy will be sincere, though he cannot stop himself now for all his thoughts of her tears.
