“Dear Diary…”
There’s a new boy in my class this year. His name is Kevin and he adorable! He has short brown hair that’s spiky and brown eyes. He’s really quiet - I think maybe he’s shy - and his voice is soft with a cute accent. He reminds me of someone but I don’t know who. But the best thing is his seat is beside mine!

“Dear Diary…”
The teacher wanted us to choose partners for an assignment. I wanted to ask Kevin so bad but I was afraid he’d say no. Guess what? He asked MEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!

“Dear Diary…”
Kevin is so smart. He seems to know a lot about everything. I’m glad he likes to work. I’ve had project partners who didn’t do their share and it’s not fair. We made an outline, decided who would do what and he’s actually doing it! He’s great.

“Dear Diary…”
We got an ‘A’ on our assignment. I’m happy and sad because we got a good grade but we aren’t working together anymore. I hope he’ll still talk to me. All the other girl in our glass are buzzing around him like bees, as Mrs. Willowby would say. I wish they’d buzz off.

“Dear Diary…”
Today at lunch, Kevin sat with me. He didn’t have to cause there were lots of empty chairs but he wanted to sit by me. Oh my gosh!

There’s a big poster outside the gym this morning. There’s a dance is three weeks. I hope Kevin asks me. If he doesn’t, I may ask him.

“Dear Diary…”
Good news and bad news - it’s going to be my first date and it’s going to be my first date

“Dear Diary…”
I have to tell Daddy and Papa about Kevin. I hope they let me go and I hope they won’t do anything embarrassing like asking to meet him.

“Dear Diary…”
It’s the end of the world! Not only do Daddy and Papa want to meet him, they want to invite him and his parents over for a BBQ. I told them Kevin and his family don’t eat but they just laughed and asked for his phone number. Like I would give it to them…

“Dear Diary…”
I hate the internet. Daddy did some kind of search and found Kevin’s phone number. He called and Kevin’s mom wants to meet them too. I’m so nervous. I love Daddy and Papa with all my heart but there are close minded jerks out there that think their love is wrong and hate them. I hope Kevin’s parents aren’t like that cause I really like him and don’t want to go all Romeo and Juliet. Maybe I should have told Kevin I have two dads.

“Dear Diary…”
You will never believe what happened?! Kevin came over for the BBQ and he has TWO MOMS! This is so cool. The parental units liked each other right away and Daddy and Papa like Kevin too. I heard Papa saying that Kevin looks like Daddy when he was younger … eewwwwwwwwww TMI

“Dear Diary…”
My teacher handed out notes after class for our parents. They are looking for chaperones and want us to ask our parents if they would do it. Yeah … right. I filed it under ‘g’ for ‘garbage’ just like the rest of the class did. Who wants their folks watching them all night?

“Dear Diary…”
I’m really starting to hate computers. Somehow, the school knew we wouldn’t pass on the notes so they sent emails to our parents instead. Daddy and Papa really want to go; they think it will be fun and they’re more excited than I am about my first date. I begged them not too but they both hit me with the puppy eyes and pouting lips and I gave in. I am so weak. But I made them promise to watch everyone else but me.

“Dear Diary…”
The universe is so mean. Kevin’s moms are going to chaperone too. We might as well stay home and play checkers or something just as boring. I bet they’ll keep us like 10 feet apart for the slow dances. If I’m lucky, my folks won’t be able to keep their hands off each other and they’ll forget about me. On second thought, that would be even more embarrassing

“Dear Diary…”
Papa asked me what I was going to wear. I hadn’t decided and then Papa said we needed to go shopping for a new dress for me and a new outfit for him. He says every special occasion calls for something special. I can’t wait. He’s the best shopper in the world!

“Dear Diary…”
After a whole day of shopping, I found a pretty purple dress that comes down to my knees (Papa won’t let the skirt be shorter) and matching sweater. I also got new shoes. Papa said to choose what I wanted but not to go overboard. He said I was 14, not 24, and I wasn’t going to look like a, like a, … I forget the word but I think it was a word I shouldn’t know anyway.

The dance is tonight and since it’s a Saturday and I’m not in school, Papa took me out for a pampering day. We both got manicures and pedicures and facials and our hair done. Daddy thinks it’s ridiculous for a 14 year old to have a spa day but Papa says it’s ‘girl time’. Daddy decided to take Josh to a basketball game instead of joining us. Papa can be such a mom some times and I love him for that.

“Dear Diary…”
Daddy and Papa are waiting for me downstairs. I just had to tell you I feel like a princess. They gave me a really pretty heart necklace and told me I was beautiful. I love them both so much. Time to go. More later.

“Dear Diary…”
Tonight was wonderful. Daddy and Papa didn’t bother us all night. We met Kevin and his Moms at the school and the parents chatted all night while we danced and had a good time with our friends. For the first slow dance, four pairs of eyes were on us but we kept space between us and I guess that was enough. I’m not sure exactly what THEY did for most of the night. The adults were supposed to be watching us kids but they had fun too. Papa toned down his dance moves, not just to keep it PG for my school but so Daddy could dance with him. Kevin’s Moms love to dance and they had some really weird moves. I think Kevin was more embarrassed than I was. After the dance ended, all six of us went to Pink’s for hot dogs and cold drinks. I decided not to get my Nacho Chili Cheese dog cause I didn’t want to mess my dress or get it all over my face. After all, I was on a date and wanted to look good. Tonight was a lot of fun and I can’t wait until the next dance.

“Dear Diary…”
Everyone was talking about the dance this morning. After school, Kevin met me at my locker and told me he’d like to go out again sometime. I said I’d like that. He kissed me on the cheek - so sweet - then said he wondered when Daddy and Papa would be free to join us - the jerk!
