This is a very intriguing start to your fic. I want to go beat up Nathan myself. I'm so glad Adam finally got the children and himself out of there. I can't wait to read the next chapter.

Nathan was focused on getting Adam back home where he had could control him so he didn't pay attention to who had answered Adam's phone.

After hearing Adam had explained his injuries as a result of a mugging, Nathan was confident Adam hadn't told the truth. As a result the identity of the man who answered Adam's phone wasn't important because the man wasn't a risk.
