I watched the human development video with a bunch of giggling or shriveling 5th grade girls yesterday.  My foster daughter and I sat there together.  Yep, one of those moments I'm sure she wished her real mom had been there.  We are still getting to know the ins and outs of each other 4 weeks later, but her mom has been out of the picture for many

I never had anything but pamphlets that my mother gave me without explanation, so I knew what sperm and zygote were but had no idea how they got there (1950's) or what sex was...
One of my favorite movie scenes is in Circle of Friends where the girl asks the boy, "Isn't that like letting someone put their finger up your nose?" Exactly how I felt when I was a kid. I was told at school that if you slept in a room with a boy you would get pregnant but if you were married you had to do something awful with your legs apart to get the same effect. I was revolted by the idea.
I have a sister and two brothers so I figured my mother had done it 4 times....
I have to laugh about it now, since it later became one of my favorite activities.

Video? What video? (They hadn't been invented. My mom handed me a booklet and that was the end of the discussion. A friend's mother showed me and my friend how to use the monthly equipment.)
