http://bollywoodrecord.livejournal.com/48748.html 1. Yuri met Soojung not long after she arrived in Korea. Jessica had taken her to the SME building to show her off to everyone, the baby sister who’s going to make it big just like her unnie. She'd been a tiny wisp of a thing, all long black hair and big doe eyes, exactly the sort of generic beauty that SM looks for. It’s almost unconscious the way Yuri had assessed her: they’d need to deepen the creases of her eyelids, maybe sculpt her jaw a bit if not all of the baby fat comes off after training, definitely teach her how to stand up straight.
From the beginning, though, Yuri had liked Soojung. She'd met Yuri’s eyes without blinking and there had been more defiance than deference in her bow. Yuri remembers hoping it wouldn't get beaten out of her.
2. As time goes on, it becomes clear that Soojung-Krystal, now-wants nothing to do with her. Yuri tries to be a good sunbae to all of the trainees, and then to f(x) as a group when they’re put together, but she always makes a little extra effort towards Krystal. Yet no matter how often Yuri offers to buy her food or help her with dance, she only ever gets a sneer in return. The third time it happens, she goes to Jessica with tears stinging her eyes and a lump in her throat and asks if she’d done something wrong.
Jessica just shrugs. “Soojung's just always been like that. Don’t take it personally.” She frowns when Yuri sniffs back the mucus threatening to drip down her nose and puts a hand on her shoulder. “I can talk to her if you want.”
Yuri shakes her head, trying to blink away the tears before her eyelashes came unglued. “No, no, it’s not a big deal. I’ll just try harder.”
3. Krystal's chosen for the "Juliette" MV, and Yuri is less annoyed than she probably should be. She doesn't miss the victory in Krystal's eyes when she drops by SNSD's practice room to tell Jessica: "They said Minho-oppa might kiss me," she brags, flipping her hair over her shoulder. Yuri can feel everyone's eyes shift to her, and she's careful not to react.
"Well," Jessica says, after a pause. "Congratulations, then."
4. “It was so embarrassing, noona, really,” Minho says, his voice slightly muffled by his shirt as he pulls it off. He emerges rolling his eyes, his hair mussed. “She showed up wearing this bright pink bra under a white shirt and she kept staring at me, and it was, like, horrifyingly obvious. Seriously, she’s so annoying.”
Yuri frowns. “Don’t say that.”
“She is, though.” Minho shucks off his pants and climbs onto her bed, curving a hand around Yuri’s hip. “She’s always trying to flirt with me and get me to come back to their dorm with her.” He presses his mouth to the skin of Yuri’s shoulder. “As if I don’t already have you.” He kisses up her neck, but when she turns her head away he sits back on his heels. “What? Aren’t you supposed to be jealous?”
Yuri shrugs, still not looking at him. “I just don’t think you should be mean to her. She doesn’t have many friends.”
She hears Minho sigh, and then he puts his fingers under her chin and turns her to face him. “I’ll be nicer. I promise. Okay?”
Yuri nods and tilts her head back so he can kiss her. “Okay.”
5. She’d known Minho was going to confess long before he actually did it. It was in the way he smiled when she was around-or, more accurately, how Kibum rolled his eyes at the way he smiled when she was around. He went out of his way to ask for her advice, and Yuri often found herself alone in a practice room with him, correcting his posture and the fluidity of his movements. He’d ask her out to coffee afterwards and insist on paying with his meager allowance, and she’d flirt with him over her cappuccino until he blushed. They kissed for the first time two weeks after "Gee" was filmed, his mouth warm and dry and his hands hovering nervously over her waist.
Sometimes they see each other every day; sometimes it’s months of different countries, different languages. Sometimes they fight. Sometimes they don't have the time or energy to make it anything but a typical idol relationship, just a way to satisfy their hormones while they wait for the day when dating someone won't cause an international incident.
Sometimes, she thinks it could be something more.
6. Occasionally SNSD's and f(x)'s schedules line up enough that they can all go out for dinner together. Yuri loves those nights, drinking beer with Victoria and chatting to Luna about nothing in particular. She and Krystal ignore each other for the most part, each sticking to their own half of the room, and when courtesy forces them together Yuri puts on her best girl-next-door smile and politely asks Krystal about how the comeback is going. Krystal just sneers at her as usual, but for the first time, Yuri sees something flicker in her eyes. It's not jealousy, not quite, more like…anger. Yuri recoils, and Krystal pushes past her to complain loudly to Victoria about how tired she is. They leave soon after that, bowing, and Yoona settles next to Yuri with an eyebrow quirked. "Alright, unnie? You look like you've seen a ghost."
"More like a demon," Sunny puts in. Yuri shivers.
7. It’s not exactly a surprise. To be honest, Yuri was expecting it all a lot sooner: the call their manager gets, how he returns from the hallway with a grim expression and pulls Yuri out of vocal practice, which is not a lesson she's usually allowed to miss. Minho is already standing outside the offices of the higher-ups and Yuri has to lace her fingers together in front of her so she doesn’t reach over and take his hand. She sees him do the same, almost placing a hand on her lower back as she walks through the door, but he cuts himself off halfway there and forces his arm back to his side. They sit uncomfortably in cushioned chairs and hear a lecture about discretion and reputation and “putting the fans first, can you imagine how many would turn to antis if they found out that you two were dating?” They nod and bow and say all the right things, eyes politely downcast, and they don’t look at each other when they walk out of the office. Minho goes one way, Yuri goes the other, and for the first time in her life, Yuri wants to punch someone when she sees Krystal lurking triumphantly in the hallway.
A few weeks later they’re informed about the Grease performance, and everyone knows what the acknowledgement means. Yuri is so happy that she lets Minho kiss her in the corner of the practice room, out of sight of the cameras-just in case-but easily visible from the window in the door. She won’t allow herself to look, but Yuri hopes viciously that Krystal walks past.
8. She brings Krystal up to Amber during a break in practice for “1, 2 Step” and gets a laugh in return. “She’s prickly,” Amber says fondly, “but she’s a good kid at heart.”
“What’s the secret?” Yuri asks, taking a swig from her bottle of water. “Does she have a favorite food or a shop that she likes or something like that?”
Amber shrugs, the same way Jessica had. “Dunno. She just likes people, I think.” She pats Yuri on the shoulder. “Don’t take it personally, unnie."
Yuri smiles. "Trust me, I don't."
9. Yuri loves to dance more than anything in the world. It’s why she auditioned for SME in the first place: even if she didn’t debut, she figured she could be a backup dancer or something. Just as long as she ended up on the stage. But she did debut, and now she gets to dance in front of thousands of people, all of them cheering for her. In those moments, she is invincible, untouchable by antis or rival groups or even Krystal. When Yuri dances, she isn’t thinking about anything except the next move and the roar of the audience when she hits it.
She watches Krystal and Jessica do "Tik Tok" together at SMTown, but the only one she sees is Jessica. Krystal looks tired, unmotivated, her smile half-hearted and sometimes not there at all. Yuri understands fatigue, she understands exhaustion and disillusionment and the allure of a normal life where there's a clear line between who you are and what you do.
What Yuri doesn't understand, watching their performance, is why Krystal is there at all.
10. Yuri gets a text from Minho two minutes after Jessica shows them the note. Pathetic, it says at one point, and desperate, but there's no longer a twinge of indignation in Yuri's heart at the words. If anything, she's mildly offended that she hadn't gotten a note herself.
"What do you think it means?" Tiffany asks, worrying at her thumbnail with her teeth. Jessica had rushed over to f(x)'s dorm as soon as she could, and now they're all sitting around waiting to hear from her.
"Maybe it's just her way of saying she's going to work harder," Seohyun suggests placidly.
"It sounds kind of ominous to me," Hyoyeon says, and the room devolves into chatter about possible scandals, Sooyoung and Yoona speculating about pregnancy and drugs and ALIENS! while Tiffany goes pale and looks like she's about to cry.
Yuri leans back against the couch and tells Minho to send noona a picture of his dick.
