And what did you have for dinner?

Tonight, I learned how to roast a chicken. Served it with some asparagus sauteed in olive oil, and the grandparents and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

All I had this evening was a bag of crisps and a bottle of Doctor Pepper.

Strangely, yours sounds like a much better idea.

Were they Walker's roast chicken flavour crisps, by chance?

That would be a close second, then.

Roasting a chicken is one of my big home standbys. I do it once every couple weeks. I usually stuff the cavity with a couple lemons or mandarins, rub the bird with olive oil and fresh rosemary and roast it over sweet potatoes. Yum.

I've been thinking about roasting a chicken for a while, but it seemed like a lot of cleanup and carving for just the two that I'm usually feeding. Especially since we aren't very good about eating leftovers.

I love roasted chicken. Doug actually does the honors -- we usually stuff the cavity with garlic.

Last night's dinner was a turkish dumpling/ravioli called manti (stuffed with seasoned ground lamb). It is served with garlicky yogurt sauce and za'tar. Num num num

Mmmm. Your dinners always sound good. Sadly, I don't think I'll be going too multicultural with the cooking so long as I'm staying with the grandparents. I don't want to confuse them.

That sounds really good.

And coming from someone who doesn't even eat chicken, that's a big compliment :o)

I miss your face!!

Tip: don't oil the chicken and then sprinkle it with salt and pepper. Instead, mix salt and oil and pepper into a paste, which you can then smear liberally over the bird. It sticks better that way.

Unless, of course, you're paying attention to your sodium intake. Then it's not such a good idea, unless perhaps you make your paste with more pepper to compensate. Von allem zu viel...

(What's that you say? Who am I and why am I here? No meaning to either question; I'm just part of the LJ fauna, meandering contentedly by.)
