Intro talk
The 22nd was a rather warm day in Tokyo and the temperature got up to 17 degrees! They mentioned that Koyama had come to work in just a short sleeve t-shirt that day.
Christmas Talk
They talked a bit about the predicted weather for Christmas 2010 (snow in the North and Kansai, sun in Kanto). Koyama then showed a chart of Tokyo's weather on Dec 24th and 25th for the past 10 years. Rain and snow almost never happened, it was generally sunny or cloudy.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_spider_man_fallKoyama helped introduce this news story and then talked to him afterwords because he has experience flying on wires too. Koyama says him and the staff always make sure to double check that everything is safe, and he hopes something like this never happens again.
Ki ni Naru corner
Ameyoko, a shopping street near Ueno park, is really crowded near the end of the year. They have lots of food stalls offering great deals on groceries. Koyama reports on Ameyoko this time.
The fun thing about Ameyoko is that you talk directly with the shopkeepers to decide on a price, explains Koyama. He then went to a seafood shop and decided to test how much he could buy with 5,000 yen. The shopkeeper asked Koyama what he wanted and he said he was interested in maguro (tuna), so the shopkeeper pointed out some ootoro (high quality tuna). However that meat alone was labeled 6,000 yen-- over Koyama's budget!
However the shopkeeper quickly tried to persuade Koyama into purchasing it by adding a pack of chuutoro (medium quality tuna) as a bonus and saying that he could buy the ootoro and chuutoro together for 3,000 yen.
The prices written on all the seafood are actually just for reference. They're based on the prices the foods would run for in normal grocery stores. Koyama learns you won't know the real price unless you talk to the shopkeeper and ends up getting ootoro tuna, chuutoro tuna, salmon roe and some crab for 5,000 yen. The shopkeeper tells Koyama Ameyoko isn't about bartering- it's about getting freebies with your purchase.
After looking around the shops for a bit, Koyama gets a tour from one of the presidents of the shopping street to find out the best place to buy osechi (Japanese New Year's food). He even gets a taste of some cheap but delicious herring roe.
Koyama is then guided to Daitoryou (
http://www.ameyoko.net/shop/280), a resturant that specializes in motsunabe. He gets some 420 yen nikomi with horse intestines. He notices that the stew is light tasting because it's not really fatty.
In the end Koyama comments he had a lot of fun shopping and really felt like he was interacting with PEOPLE as opposed to just shopping alone.
