While people like Gerard Baker, James Joyner and even John McCain himself are prattling on about how McCain's policies and campaign are not a pale rehash of the Bush administration, his hiring choices tell a different story ( Read more... )

I feel like I woke up in Bizarro world when I read the commentary and watch the pundits. The theory that Walnut picking a pro-life, creationist, gun-toting, inexperienced, mother of five as a running mate will pull Clinton democrats into his campaign would be a poor joke at any other time. Unfortunately they're all treating it like a real threat to Obama's chances in November. Then I hear absolutely no mention of Huckabee evangelicals jumping ship to Obama because he actually "walks the walk" when it comes to his personal faith with Jesus.

I'm sure he's none too happy about his party saddling him with a woman even if she is a nutjob. I fear though that he will get in because of her. I fear that this now will boil down to people choosing between wanting a black man or a woman in the White House.

I'll be voting for Obama even though I'm none too fond of some of his policies. He's better than the future of McCain.

If anyone votes for McCain/Palin simply to put a woman in the White House, they should have paint poured over their head if they ever attempt to identify themselves as liberal or progressive. From what I'm reading about her policies and statements as Governor, it'd be like to voting for Phyllis Schlafly just because you want to see a woman in the White House.

They voted in Bush, twice. The general populace are the ones I have the fear of, not the educated and smart ones. The west coast and the NE will make intelligent choices, they always do. But the bible belt and the south aren't like those areas and we both know it. The West and NE states aren't worth enough points combined to beat those areas.

There are enough stupid people out there that will boil it down to "a black man" or "a woman".

True, and I fear it will further boil down to "a black secret Muslim with ties to anti-Semitic racists" or "a former beauty queen mother with a special needs baby."
