CLAMP's Official Avatar Maker Live, Available on Web for Immediate Tormenting of Beloved Characters
So we've known for a while that CLAMP was going to roll out user-generated avatars on their mobile site, and the service is now live. But as nokiirat points out in a post at clamp_now, you don't to access the site via your phone to play with the avatar maker -- just go here to get started. It's a kick, they have a great starting selection, and I've been playing with it all evening.
Here's a quick walkthrough if you need help getting around the site.
1. Click this green bar.
2. To select your character head, click the yellow bar.
3. Click on any character head to select it.
4. Your avatar with its new head appears on the right. They all have a bluish bodystocking thing. (If you want them naked, open up Photoshop and get to pixel paintin'.)
5. It's time to dress your avatar! Although you'll see points values associated with all the items, don't worry -- you can "try on" any of them, and they'll stay on the avatar.
To get a feel for the system, click the circled area to access non-costume items, variously referred to as "My Item Shop," "Mai Shop," and most amusingly, "My Head Shop." To put any item on your character, just click it and wait for the page to load.
7. Your character is (partially) dressed! Fabulous! There are a lot of items in this category to choose from -- use the black squares below the item selection area to navigate.
So here's Kamui:
He has some dignity intact, which means that I have failed. Something must be done.
8. To remove an item of clothing, click the circled button next to it and wait for the page to load. Here, I've taken off Kamui's vest.
8. Say you want to dress characters in their signature costumes/outfits -- can you do that? Of course! The column to the right of the item selection area (where you found the "My Shop" link) has the available items listed by series, character, and sometimes storyline. From the top:
So if you click on "X," here's the current assortment for X characters, with outfits and items for Kamui, Fuuma, Yuzuriha and Kusanagi.
(Tragically, no Shinken or enormous wings of either the feathered or bat variety, but I expect that to change.)
9. And here's Kamui's individual page.
As you can see, characters who are in more than one series may have outfits from some or all those series. So in the absence of Kamui's "official" X cape, you can dress him in his Tsubasa vampire twins look.

10. Of course, you don't have to dress a character in their own outfits, or outfits from their own series. For instance, if you go to the TB page, you can have Kamui do Subaru cosplay!
11. Or Hokuto cosplay!
12. Honestly, you knew this is the first thing I did with this, right?
13. Of course, you can mix and match pieces from different series, and combine "My Shop" items with the costume stuff.
You probably shouldn't do this, though. "And Super King, the best one of the three!"
14. Don't forget to screencap the page if you want to hang on to your avatar.
Finally, if you ever find yourself at this screen, click the circled area and you should be able to get back to avatar designing. (It may take a few tries.)
