Oh, Fitting...

Some background information. My corsets are interchangeable. I may have an 1860s, 1870s, 1880s, and 1880s sensible style corset, but any of my Victorian dresses will fit over them. I may have 1770s and 1780s and the first set of stays I made, but again, interchangeable ( Read more... )

On my gosh, muslin making is the worst. Especially when there's armscye or collars involved, ugh.
I hope you still have cake. You deserve it after this.

I still have cake. Lots and lots of cake!

And at least I just have to make it fit me! My only consolation in the whole thing :)

Weird and interesting that these stays are different. Oh mock-ups! They are such a grind.

Isn't it? I just don't have much figure, so that these did something different was surprising. And something I was happy about!

And such a grind. Ugh. And I almost never have to do them anymore, and if I do, it's usually just a little stylistic change. It was so strange to have to make something fit! Fortunately, the front was pretty good as is. Getting an 18c neckline to fit is one of the hardest things I've done :)

I still have no idea how you get so much done in one day. You are superhuman!

Summer vacation and the inability to sit still. That's all it is :)

Bummer! I'm sure you will master the muslin in the end though. Given enough beating and time they usually give in. Bitchy muslins are mean but they can't hold up to a stubborn seamstress!

They most certainly can't! I think I have it pretty much tamed. But as I'm doing it, I just have to tell myself that it will work out, it always does.

I have to say though, I'm happy I had to do it. I have a better figure in these stays, so the headache is worth it!

How exciting that these stays are different. I just hope you get the mock up working on the next try.

Isn't it? I just have so little that's squishable, so different cuts of stays don't always matter. I have a better figure in these, which makes me quite happy!

And thanks--I've cut out the next version, and I have a lot of hope for it :)
