The Group Finds Out

"Aren't we a sorry bunch? Seriously, none of us could get a date for New Year's?" Britta teased the rest of the group as she stepped off the elevator and saw Shirley, Pierce, Troy, and Abed standing in the hallway outside Jeff's (and Annie's, she had to remind herself) apartment. Of course, the rest of them didn't know that yet.

Such a great ending! I loved that Pierce knew already and can I say how great it is to read a fic where Shirley is not a giant rage-monster when she finds out about Jeff and Annie being together??? In almost every fic, she's full of disapproval and judgement and anger towards their relationship. It's so refreshing to read that she's not angry, just disappointed that they hid it from her. I never expect Shirley to be over-the-moon ecstatic about Jeff and Annie being together, so her slight reservation here is in character. But it's nice to see her accept them and be somewhat understanding.

At long last, we have our ending and Jeff and Annie are exposed - and of course, in both cases there was nothing to worry about at all. Yet Britta's self-analysis, Jeff and Annie's inability to keep their hands off each other before the party, Pierce's deductive skills, Shirley seeing the bright side in all this - and especially Jeff's realizations about happiness and devious Annie - more than made up for the lack of a group-shattering brawl.
