Title: Four Times Massu Feels Like He's in the Middle of a Tug of War, One Time He Doesn't
Author: Kamika Farinas aka tinyangl
Rating: PG
Words: 2050
Characters: Ryo/Massu/Tego [Nishikido Ryo/Masuda Takahisa/Tegoshi Yuya]
Summary: Ryo and Tego are always bringing Massu into their arguments, and he really wishes he knew why.
Author's Note: This was written for cynicalism for our two month anniversary of... um.... MSNing as she put it. In return, she wrote me this awesome Pin fic when she knows they're my OTP. So I decided to do pretty much the same, except add in a little RyoMassu for her as well. :D The ending isn't my favorite, but it's a drastic improvement from the first version. XP Enjoy?

I.
Massu wasn't sure how he hadn't noticed the growing tension between Ryo and Tegoshi. It should've been easy to - the tension between them was enough to cut with a knife. But they had acted so normal with each other around the group and nobody seemed to realize. Nobody except Massu himself. To be honest, he wouldn't have realized it had it not been for their current shoot where they had been separated into groups of three - Massu with Ryo and Tego, Yamapi with Koyama and Shige. Massu was expecting something silly - maybe Tegoshi would throw an arm around his shoulder as always, Ryo would shake him like the Weeeek PV (or act like he is going to) or something weird like that. He hadn't expected Tegoshi to jump on his back, wrapping his arms around Massu's neck. He hadn't expected Ryo to curl his hand around one of his arms and tug towards his direction.

Massu would've yelped if he wasn't so professional - Tegoshi's grip had gotten tighter when he saw Ryo's hand on Massu; Ryo's nails dug into his arm so hard that Massu could feel them through the material of his (unfortunately) thin sweater. He still tried hard to keep pleasant and his mouth was open as he was forcing himself to laugh. He couldn't believe that he could see Ryo, through the corner of his eye, smiling pleasantly (as pleasantly as Ryo could afford anyway) and Tegoshi's face was as normal as ever.

When the photographer had told them he had gotten the right photo, Tegoshi and Ryo still didn't let go - Ryo tugged at Massu's arm again, pulling him in Ryo's direction and this time, Massu couldn't hold back his yelp of pain. Tegoshi gasped in Massu's ear, "Massu! Are you okay? Ryo-tan didn't hurt you, did he?"

Massu looked up at Tegoshi, "My back is hurting too." Tegoshi blinked at him. "You're still on me, Tegoshi."

"Ah!" Tegoshi meeped, jumping off just as Ryo snapped, "Tego-nyan, you shouldn't forget important things so easily."

Tegoshi looked towards Ryo and his eyes narrowed. "I'm sorry, Ryo-tan. I didn't mean to offend Massu, but Massu wasn't too hurt - were you, Massu?"

Massu gulped when both pairs of eyes stared into him. "Um," he started, stepping backwards, even though Ryo's hand was still clutching his arm.

"Guys, off the set please!" A random voice interjected and Massu took the moment of surprise to swat Ryo's hand off of him and dash off. He honestly had no idea how one was supposed to deal with a fight between two of their group members. He wasn't the kind of person who could handle this kind of situation.

II.
Still, nobody noticed that the air between Ryo and Tegoshi was different - Massu, on the other hand, was accutely aware of every single move now. To be fair, it was all very subtle - Ryo and Tegoshi would still call each other by "Ryo-tan" and "Tego-nyan" but there was an edge to their voices when they said the nicknames. Tegoshi still sat on Ryo's lap, but more often than not, their conversation would be stilted and Massu was pulled into them without wanting to.

"Massu, Ryo-tan thinks that we should go to Osaka for our break, isn't that silly? We were there just a few weeks ago. I voted for Hawaii again~" Tegoshi mused, swinging his feet lightly against Ryo's leg from his spot on Ryo's lap.

"Ah," Massu started, fidgeting in his seat across from them.

"It's too far, Tego-nyan," Ryo pointed out, his arms around Tegoshi's waist and his fingers digging into Tegoshi's side. "We have the tour starting soon after, so we don't wanna miss anything."

"Well," Massu said, just for something to say, when they stared in his direction again. "Shouldn't... we talk about this with the whole group?"

Ryo snorted, "Pi'd automatically vote for Hawaii like the idiot that he is." Tegoshi made a noise protesting the insult, but Ryo continued on. "Koyama'd just think that we would be happy wherever so we can choose. Kato'd be the same way, because he follows Koyama like a puppy sometimes. So you're left. You're the unbiased one here."

"Unbiased?" Massu asked.

The edges of Ryo's lips slowly formed a smile, "You may have a close relationship with Tego-nyan, but I scare you."

Massu stared at Ryo and Tegoshi smacked Ryo lightly on the arm. "You're cheating," Tegoshi pouted.

"All's fair. So what say you, Masuda?" Ryo asked.

Massu gulped before Koyama called out to all three of them, announcing that it was time for their photo shoot. He laughed awkwardly, before telling the two that he guessed they'd have to talk about it later before running to the other members - the safer members.

III.
In the end, nobody really wanted to go anywhere during the bit of vacation they had been able to get right before the tour. So as always, Massu would spend his time with Tegoshi - shopping, eating, bowling, karaoke and activities of the like. They were, as everyone called them, dates. During one in particular though, he had gotten a call from someone he hadn't expected. "Nishikido-kun?" Massu had asked after Ryo's casual "Yo" over the phone.

"Where are you?" Ryo asked, and Tegoshi threw him a dirty look for even picking up his phone - as though he hadn't done the same for Koyama who'd called just under an hour ago.

"At some cafe with Tegoshi," Massu said, playing with his straw.

"Tell me the address - I'll meet you guys in 10 minutes."

"Wait, what? You wanna-"

Tegoshi leant over the table and snagged the phone from Massu's hand, sitting back down and talking into it. "Ryo-tan, you're interrupting Tegomass dating time!" Massu watched as the look on Tegoshi's face went from dark to darker. "Ryo-tan," Tegoshi whined, but quickly shut up - his lips pursed. "Okay. We're at-" Massu's eyes went wide as Tegoshi told Ryo exactly where they were and hung up, his face pale.

"Tegoshi?"

Tegoshi looked up from the table and passed the phone back to Massu, "Ryo-tan wanted some Massu time." Massu froze. "He thinks it'll be good for us! You're the one he talks less to, ne?"

"Ah," Massu murmured, still watching Tegoshi as his eyes flared with new life.

"I'll stick around! Wouldn't want Ryo-tan scaring Massu away~ You need someone to watch your back after all."

Massu nodded mutely, hoping this wouldn't turn out as badly as he felt it would.

IV.
At one point in the tour, Massu had been forced to share a room with Tegoshi and Ryo - for some reason, management had only been able to secure two rooms for all the NewS members and just by chance, he had gotten the chance to room with the two people who had been causing Massu so many headaches. He thought that maybe they'd be so exhausted that they wouldn't cause any trouble - he thought that way until he opened the door.

"There are only two beds," Ryo snapped as soon as Massu threw open the door.

"Two beds," Tegoshi echoed, his voice hollow (Massu was a little frightened, but he chalked it up to exhaustion).

"What kind of stupid idiot would put only two beds into a room they were putting three people into?" Ryo growled as he walked into the room, Massu and Tegoshi following behind him.

Massu sighed, "I'll take the couch if that'll help us decide who sleeps where."

"Don't be stupid," Ryo snapped, "You can share with me; I bet Tegoshi's clingy in his sleep."

"I am not!" Tegoshi cried as he dropped his bag on the floor and threw himself into one of the beds, sighing. "Besides, Massu's used to sleeping in the same bed as me - it'll probably be more comfortable in my bed."

Massu blinked as Tegoshi pouted in Massu's direction - looking a little hurt and lost. "I-" Massu started, but Ryo quickly interrupted. "Maybe Massu just hasn't broken it to you that he thinks you're awfully clingy."

Tegoshi's mouth dropped and he gaped at Ryo in horror before rearing his head to look at Massu. Massu looked helplessly into Tegoshi's eyes before blurting out, "I'm sleeping on the couch!" He spun around, grabbing his bag, a pillow from Ryo's bed (served him right to have started this in the first place) and plopping himself on the couch. He shut his eyes in frustration and behind him, he could hear the whispered exchange between Ryo and Tegoshi. "It's your fault he's mad." "No way! You started it." "What are you, five?" Massu whimpered and hoped sleep would come sooner than later.

I.
Massu was, quite frankly, getting awfully tired of this "contest" going on between Ryo and Tegoshi and he was getting the vague feeling that it was all related to him, but he could not fathom just how that was possible. He leaned his head against the table, burying it in arms as he listened to Ryo and Tegoshi banter across from him.

"Won't you two quit it already?" Massu mumbled from beneath his arms. He looked up, exhausted, and the two boys blinked in his direction.

"Quit what, Massu?" Tegoshi asked, frowning.

"Arguing around me!" Massu exclaimed, throwing his hands in the air. "It's getting tiring and I don't know how to handle it! I'm not like Koyama who'd be able to get you to start being nice to each other with just one sentence. Or Shige who you'd just start picking on together. Or Yamapi who, even though isn't recognized as the leader, would still manage to get you to stop arguing just by looking at you. I don't have any such way!"

Tegoshi and Ryo exchanged looks, noses almost knocking against each other since Tegoshi was sitting on Ryo's lap. "But... We're not arguing around you," Tegoshi said, confused. "We've been arguing about you. Haven't you noticed?"

Massu blinked. Once. Twice. "...What?" he said articulately.

Ryo sighed. "I knew he wouldn't get it. Masuda's a little slow."

"Hey!" Massu protested, peeved that he wasn't understanding what was going on here.

"We want to spend more time with Massu!" Tegoshi finally cleared up, grinning at Massu.

Massu blinked again. Once. Twice. "...What?" he repeated.

"We've been arguing which of us should be spending time with Massu and when," Ryo explained, getting straight to the point.

"...Why would you be arguing about that?" Massu asked.

"Because we really like Massu, of course!"

Massu frowned. "I like you both too, but you don't see me causing you headaches."

Tegoshi's eyes widened as he leant over and grabbed Massu's hands into his own. Massu jumped back a little. "Really?!" Massu could feel his cheeks flushing and he nodded mutely. Tegoshi let out high-pitched squeal before Ryo threw his hand over Tegoshi's mouth.

"You do realize what we mean by like, right?" Ryo asked, raising one eyebrow.

Massu gave Ryo a dry look. "I'm not that slow."

Ryo smirked, "Just saying. After all we've put you through, you still like us? I think you're a little insane."

Massu glanced at Tegoshi who was fighting to breathe from underneath Ryo's hand, his face turning a shade of blue. "Just a little. And you might wanna move your hand before Tegoshi can't breathe."

"But he's so much quieter like this," Ryo pointed out, but he removed his hand nonetheless.

Tegoshi took in a deep breath, and then frowned, smacking Ryo's hand lightly. He turned his attention to Massu again. "So you really like us?" he asked, almost pleading.

Massu felt his cheeks flush again before nodding, "Yeah. I really do like you both." Ryo and Tegoshi exchanged looks before both smiled at Massu. He thought that was a sight he'd never get tired of.

("Does that mean we're a threesome now?" Tegoshi asked cheerfully.

"Be one. Have one. Whichever," Ryo said without missing a beat.

Massu chortled as Tegoshi furrowed his eyebrows together, "Wait-what?" Massu's laughter only increased as Ryo shook his head.

He drapped an arm over Massu. "At least not all of us here are innocent. I'm not alone again."

Tegoshi pouted, "I'm not innocent!" The two males raised their eyebrows simultaneously. "I'm not!" Tegoshi insisted.

Massu laughed as he watched Tegoshi argue his case. This was definitely going to be different, he thought as he slightly turned his head to catch a glimpse of Ryo's hand on his shoulder before meeting Ryo's eye on his other side. The twinkle in his eye somehow got brighter and the edges of his lips tugged upwards. Definitely different.)
