Byousoku 5 Centimeter: A Chain of Short Stories About Their Distance

May 26, 2008 20:44

[CONTAINS SPOILERS] [Actually, note that ALL my anime/manga reviews contain spoilers~]
Oh man! I still got 4 or 3 journal posts I haven't post or written yet. Anyways, I want to write out my feeling about the movie before it goes away tomorrow. Here, I recently watched Byousoku 5 Centimeter by who? MAKOTO SHINKAI! ^o^. Oh boy, look at the details of the backgrounds! They're just superb I tell you! ^o^. I actually found The Place Promised in Our Early Days a little bit slow going. Was it because I was expecting something fast that time? Hm, I forgot, but, I would want to watch it another time so that I can do it a better justice, keh. AP only has 2 pics of this! I can't believe that.....>.>. Still, I searched using Google, and yeeppie! I got screen-shots from other blogs, hehehehehe. Thank you for uploading the pics. ^_~.

The third ep of where the title comes out during the song. I guess that explains the subtitle below it, keh. :p

Let's see, I find this anime quite sad, melancholic and has a nice touch of slow pace. Oh wait! I just checked the place I took the pictures from, maybe I'll just credit him/her, heh. I took some of them from niipah.wordpress.com . :3 . I would actually love to collect some quotes from Byousoku too, but I actually don't remember some big big ones. I quite enjoyed Voices of The Distant Star, but it was without Makoto Shinkai-sama's trademark. "What do you mean?", hm, what I meant was that I only read the manga, haha. ^o^. I saw the movie before in MPH, Jaya Jusco, Taman Maluri. By the looks of the box, I wasn't really convinced that the subtitles would be good, so I skipped on buying it. Oh, and by the way, I posted my journal about Voices of The Distant Star in my AP page. Hm, do love the cover, heh. :p . Since I don't want my AP journal of Hoshi no Koe (yeah, the Japanese name of it~) to go without being read, I'll place the link in here, heh. ^_~. (Oh, the other places I got were: foxsrtifer.blogspot.com,
Here.

Our hero. I know, the charas aren't really detailed as the bgs, but, they're still nice. ^_~

Look at that! ^o^

I still remember how happy I was getting it(Hoshi no Koe), heh. ^_~. Ok, back to Byousoku, konkona! ^o^. Okies, Byousoku. I guess, Makoto Shinkai's detailed background and quality wouldn't need further explanations, right? Oh! Yeah, the only thing which disappointed me in this anime was that the anime was just short! Nijikai nano yo! It only lasted for 1 hour or so.....;_; . *sobs* *sobs*. I actually would want more, and I actually thought that ep 3 (it has 3 episodes. Something like an OVA) would be around 30 minutes like the others, but......no.....inai no yo! The most of ep 3 was filled with a song and some flashbacks. If I would've known that after the song was the end, I would've enjoyed it more, because, during the song, the only thing I was thinking was, "Faster....faster! I wanna see more!", not that the AMV(yeah, it's something like an AMV) wasn't nice, it was, but, I wanted to watch more because I thought there would be.....;_;

The poster. There, on the right is Ayase...Akane?...>.>

Another shot of Shinkai-sama's wonderfulness.

Akari reading the letter alone.

The two, when they were small, running hand-in-hand.

I recommend you to watch the movie if your want to see better shots of Makoto Shinkai-sama's work. ^_~

Hm, Byousoku 5 Centimeter tells a tale of 2 charas (my language of "characters") who gets separated by their distance. It all started when they were good friends, and that the girl had to move to another city. So, they contacted through letters. After they met for the second time, they separated and their distances grew longer because the boy had to shift to another city.... yeah, that's how the story goes. After that, for some reason, they didn't contact each other.

In the second ep, the directors introduced another chara who has a cute little crush on our hero. Oh! And our hero's name is......>.>........>.>?.........ah..........Tohno Takaki? Yeah, I think he's name is that. The girl's is something Akari. And the next new chara is........>.>*......................grrr.............Ayase? Nanase? Uwah! I forgot characters' names again. For some reason, my memory power has deteriorated due to some unknown reasons. Aging? Gah! I am only 15 for goodness sake!

One of the last scenes Takaki and Akari are shot together, huhu.....;_;

Oh, ehem, going back to where I left off, um, I actually think that's all, you know? Truth be told, I am no good anime reviewer, haha. I don't really know whether I am good a not, you know why's that? It's because PEOPLE DON'T COMMENT! Or is it because people don't stumble across my blog? Haha, who knows? Anyways, I don't want to fill this up with anything un-Byousoku-related.

Oh, and hopefully I did provide some nice pictures for you from the anime. It's just superb. Oh oh oh! Wait up! I just remembered on something I was surprised about. That is, the anime isn't blur, and the subtitles aren't cacat! Thank God! ^o^. I will really just take care of my Byousoku properly. Ooh, and another thing which I don't like is that the interviews don't provide subtitles, but only Chinese.....isn't that just cheating?! ...;_;. I want to hear Makoto Shinkai-sama's interview and the seiyuu of Takaki.
Note that Takaki is just one nice sweet boy, hehe. ^_~. UWAH! Yesh! You know what? Akari, the heroine, at the end actually is engaged.......X_X . Poor Takaki! But in the end, they never end up together....;_;. Maybe that's just how the directors wanted it to be. You know, the theme is actually same with Hoshi no Koe. Hoshi no Koe's one was also touching. It's so much worth my RM 15 +, keh. ^_~. Hoshi no Koe also talks about distances, it's just that the distance is far more bizarre than this, meaning that it's just no ordinary shift-here-shift-there type of distance. It's about the distance between Earth and Space! And it's because of those monkey alien life forms, or maybe they aren't to blame, but those humans who want to research on them....anyways, I'll provide the links to the synopsis.

I think this can be counted as a 4.6(why is there a "6" in here?) stars for this. I'll be going off to watch The Place Promised in Our Early Days if I get to find it. Yeah! Fushigi na, I seem to have lost it to who-knows-where land. I'll be searching in the cupboard tomorrow, and then I'll maybe review what I think about it? Maybe it'll still be full with the name, "Makoto Shinkai-sama", "Makoto Shinkai-sama" and "Makoto Shinkai-sama". What can I do? He does have such a magnificent talent. ^_~.
Off I go, minna-san! ^o^

UWAH! TAKAKI! TURN YOUR HEAD TO THE RIGHT!!! AKARI HAKKEN (SPOTTED) AKARI HAKKEN!!!! (in the end, he turned back, a train blocked his view, and when the train was gone, the girl was gone too.....=_=)

Makoto Shinkai-sama ga daisuki desu! ^O^

Akari and her fiancé!!

Our Takaki has grown, *sobs* *sobs*. Somebody please pass me a hanky, haha! ^o^
