i love having food just waiting for me outside. :D

it takes a lot of patience to keep checking back (there is a LOT of crap out there, ye gods), but sometimes the timing is just right and you get lucky!

thanks! these both came from ACTS thrift store on hill ave just below the 210. it's about 5 minutes from work for me, so i stop by regularly to just ~see~ what they have. it's a mixed bag. lots of crap. some good deals, some not so great. but that's the nature of thrift stores, yeah?

i've also had good luck at the salvation army across town on del mar blvd. and i recently got a desk at the goodwill on altadena dr/foothill blvd.

What color/style are you using to upholster the chairs?

this year i could really only handle tomatoes (too much craziness with the moving and all), but next year i want to branch out with all sorts of veggies and peppers. you and your garden are an ~inspiration~!

the fabric is a light linen color? with a graphic velvet turquoise pattern on it. that... doesn't sound very attractive, but i promise it's fun! :p

Krit, your tomatoes are so pretty! I house-sat for my friend's sister a few summers ago and she had tomato plants with those little pear-shaped yellow ones. Every time I took the dog outside I'd end up picking them off the plants and just popping them in my mouth. OM NOM NOM.

And omg, how much do you love a good thrift store find??? I furnished several apartments in Florida with about 90% thrift store furniture. OMG I still miss that huge thrift store sometimes. It was right across the highway from the tiny, dark, musty-dusty used bookstore. <33333333333

the yellow pear-shaped ones are my favorite! sadly, the yellow tomato plants haven't produced much this year. i think i planted them too late. but the red one is HUGE and produces a good handful every couple of days. :D

right? i'm basically working with an ikea budget, but trying to keep the ikea purchases to a minimum. it takes persistence and patience, but so far so good.

My dad grew tomatoes every year, and the smell of them always makes me think of him. <3 One summer he was a little... overenthusiastic with the Miracle Grow and we ended up with exploded tomatoes. We never let him live that down.

And I love Ikea, but I'm with you--I like mixing up old and new. And half the fun (and FRUSTRATION) of thrifting is having to sift through lots of crap to get to the good stuff. At least sometimes you get to dig through FUN crap. :)
