Down with Unions!

With so many of my car-less Torontonian friends be-moaning the just-averted TTC strike, let me say how evil I consider unions to be. Yes there was once a time when they were necessary, but now they are just as evil if not moreso than the evil they were organized to fight

As someone who has almost always worked in unionized environments, I can say that they really are both good and bad

You of course knew you'd get support from me. I think unions are an evil, greedy, blight on a proper democratic, capitalist society. Especially in the public service sector (and of course the TTC should be an essential service, as should school unions, but that's a separate rant.) Of course the problem is with our socialist government, especially with the lefty Liberals (or God forbid, NDP), in charge, unions will never go away and will always hold their power over the public. Heck you could make an argument unions even killed hockey! (I'm not saying the owners are blameless and perfect there, but I personally put the bulk of the blame on the players' union - but again, different rant). And everytime I hear a TTC worker, or a Teacher, or a Government employee, (to name my top-hated unions) talk about how his employer is ONLY offering them X when they in fact SO deserve Y just makes me ill, since no one in the private sector ever gets X, let alone Y. Its like those unions and those used to being pampered by those unions, don't live in

As you know, my brother, this is an area upon which we agree. The TTC, schools and health care are the top of my list of unions that should never be allowed to strike. They're too important, and a strike by them wields way too much power.

I could go on and on about how unions suck and about how bleeding heart left-wing policies suck, but that will no doubt pull our left wing friends out of hiding to defend their "rights". ;)
