It's funny...I hit up Youtube tonight to listen to MJ songs while drawing and an observation came to me: In many of his songs, he wholeheartedly proclaimed he wanted to be left alone

I know it's gonna sound crazy... but put peanut butter on the cd along the crack and rub it in gently then wipe it off really well. I saved a Cd like that, it didn't last but at least I was able to listen to it a little while.
I'm pretty sure someone is gong to do a Collection of his sucesses soon.
Here's the thing, it's not exactly a _crack_ in the "ah fudgebunnies, it broke in twain" sense, but just this...inexplicable smear (made the more inexplicable because it was in a CD case at the time -- heat perhaps?) that's part of it now. I mean I'll see if I can give it a try, just saying I'm not holding my breath. In any case, thanks.
Oh I don't doubt it. Heck, one local radio station is going out of its way to playing a whole bunch of MJ music (even covers) as we speak. True, it's a bit jarring listening to the original Beat It one point and hearing the Fall Out Boy version later...
Yeah I know I have been listening to a tribute this morning and they played the original music. And you do want to hear it when you loose someone you respected like that. I hope I am able to get a compilation soon.
Looking over my CDs, I think I got it confused with another CD. This one's just weirdly scratched at points -- on the computer it sounds like it's lagging when there's no reason it would be. Both CDs are like this.
I may well snatch up a new compilation if these turn out to be unsavable. Maybe I can at least rip them to MP3 format, once I figure out if I have any programs for that...
I wouldn't recommend peanut butter, but washing it with dish soap. Just make sure you wipe with a soft cloth from the center of the disc outward.
Also, it's interesting that you mention he wanted to be left alone. No song exemplifies that better than "Leave Me Alone" from Invincible, which I always liked. :B
That was without a doubt the first time we really got to see Michael Jackson vs The Media and it wasn't at all the last (HIStory alone has like three songs that could well be portrayed like this, Scream being the best known of these)
