I need to just stop looking at the graphic design related job postings. They always want experience with a long list of programs I've never used or sometimes even heard of, and it's so much more depressing than the many various other jobs I'm not qualified for. Stop it, self, stop twisting the knife.

art is a worthless skill, failure angst

You could try noting down the major ones and finding 101 books or Youtube tutorials on them and then just pretend you have used them before. (Abnd you wouldn't be the only one!) The differences between many programmes aren't that huge. Granted, I don't work in design, but my roommate does, and she's learned on PS, and now her work uses a different programme she was super scared of at first, but it turned out the differences were roughly equivalent to those between WinWord and Open Office Word. I once worked for a newspaper and it took me half a day to get how their scary-looking text editor worked even though I'd never seen it before ( ... )
