Attention all cat owners! Introducing the Hexbug Nano

Oct 01, 2011 00:31

If you have a cat and haven't heard of these things already, listen up! So there's this new little toy called the Hexbug Nano. A friend recommended these things to me as a toy for my cat, Remi. They're little "robotic" bugs that basically buzz around on the floor (on hard surfaces) and behave, well, a lot like real bugs.

Hahahahaha!!! That one part where the bug hit her on her hip and she jumped up then started licking her hip like "What the hell? That bug touched me!!" Man, I can not believe how big Remi has gotten, though. I still think of her as a kitten, and she's all grown up!

Hahaha, I love how it's obvious to anyone watching that that's exactly what was running through her head at the time. It really couldn't have been anything else. If she were human, there is no doubt in my mind that she would be smoothing down her whatever-she'd-be-wearing, huffing indignantly and saying, "Well, I never!"

And yep, all grown up! Her 3rd birthday is in just a couple of days. :)

They're in the toys section. They're packaged in plastic test tubes (which I think is cute) and if it's anything like it was at the Target I went to, they'll probably be stocked alongside a bunch of other Hexbug products. There is a glow-in-the-dark variety too!

Another funny thing is when she moves it to the carpet-- either by picking it up with her mouth and dropping it there, or by swatting at it so hard that it goes flying off the wood floor-- and I find her there later, sitting and staring at it expectantly as it tries and fails to move.

The only issue I've now found with these 'bugs' is their poor battery life. It's nice to leave the Hexbug running and walk away for a while, but it drains the tiny battery so fast. I had to go buy new batteries today because Remi's 'bug' kept dying and when it did, Remi would find me and start with her incessant whining/crying. lol... my cat, even all grown up, she is such a baby!

It takes button cell batteries, one at a time. Hexbug sells them in packs of two for $4 (which is what I just bought), but I've just found 10-packs as well as 50-packs on Amazon for $3-$6, so... yep, gonna stock up!

You're more than welcome! :) I really think every cat ought to have one. And they're pretty inexpensive-- that is, until it comes time to replace the batteries, unless you buy in bulk online as I'm sure I'll be doing.
