It is a principle of the art of war that one should simply lay down his life and strike. If one's opponent also does the same, it is an even match. Defeating one's opponent is then a matter of faith and destiny. -- Hagakure
"There is a part in all of us that longs for a battle, not just a physical conflict, but something that puts us inches from death. A challenge to test our mettle, to see if we can shatter the facade of our false selves and stand against the enemy with our true face. We long to know if we will have what it takes."
And i just thought my husband had a "Death Wish"! Boy, the stories he tells sometimes. God has to be real and involved in our lives because my hubby should be dead otherwise.
LOL :) I think we men tend to take the 'warrior' spirit to heart and express it in 'death wish' ways. We simply need to know that if we are called to protect our wife and children, even to the death, we will have the courage to do so.
Have you ever read Wild at Heart by John Eldridge or Iron John by Robert Bly? Both books talk about such things (though Wild at Heart describes it from a Christian viewpoint).
Nah, though i probably should. I don't want to "castrate" the men in my life just because I want them around. Sometimes it's hard to find that balance between safe and cowardly. (And to think my name means "Battle Maiden"! *sigh*)
I sometimes find that balance hard to achieve also. Though remembering that we're not totally safe while in our earthly form is frightening, we know that we have safety in eternity :)

No, it's no wonder my favorite movies are LOTR, Star Wars, and anything with Wong Fei Hong, esp as played by Jet Li :)

Though having a lightsaber would be way cool!
Jet Li is awesome! I expect to get my copy of "Hero" any day now :)
