Old Pictures

Request for some technical advice: I have an old hard drive kicking around that may or may not have died on me. This was from three years ago, so I'd mostly forgotten about it. Sadly, a few days ago a good friend of mine from college died, and that hard drive had a lot of pictures of him on it. I'd really love to retrieve those if it's possible ( Read more... )

My first guess would be to find a USB enclosure for it and see if you can pull anything off it before it dies utterly.

There are services that can recover the data, but they tend to be ex$pendy and, if the drive is indeed dead, may be of little use to you.

I've heard that putting it in the freezer can help in some cases.

Talk to me tomorrow or tonight; I can probably help with this to at least a small degree if not a large one.

I've got a couple of drive enclosures floating around, etc, and I may still have some of the data recovery tools (though I don't imagine they'll be required).

Obviously this is all very hypothetical, but the short answer is "I used to be a computer tech for a living, still have most of the tools I probably will need, and would be happy to look at it."
