Well, someone took the Epic Laziness feat. ::shifty eyes::
At least the newsletter's only a day later than I promised from last week.... So, let's see what happened since the last newsletter.
I went to yet another baby shower. There was some really yummy fruit dip there made from cream cheese, brown sugar, and crumbled Heath candy. Mmmmm.... And the baby is yet another girl for the ward's infant roster.
I stayed home from Stake Conference's Saturday evening session because Wiggles was being fussy, and I was feeling off. I went Sunday morning, though, which was good because Elder L. Tom Perry of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles was there in person to speak. Dang, he's tall. (For those unaware of who or what I was just talking about, you can find more info
here; just browse around.)
Not much happened over the course of the subsequent week. I think I made it to playgroup, but I've been majorly slacker-iffy on that count since the new year started, due to laziness, lack of sleep, and laziness. (Did I mention laziness?) I did, however, manage to space-out on a Visiting Teaching appointment for that Wednesday, which I forgot to write down on the calendar, and didn't realize it until the woman we were supposed to visit called me about an hour later. ::facepalm:: She was good-natured about it, though, and we rescheduled for the next day (and made it, too).
I've run two Æsir sessions since the last newspost, which ended up being a two-part episode pulled from a module in Ghost Stories. It was irritating for me at times because the module writer wrote everything on the assumption that the team would be intimately involved with the NPCs before the session even starts (as in, related or working for), so it was very hard for me to bring in an outside party and have them remain interested in the proceedings. But overall it went well. Yay!
Saturday the 15th, we went to Sears (among other errands) to get Wiggles' one-year photos taken (almost three months late). She was very well-behaved, and I only wish the photographer hadn't outright dismissed some of the accidental "looking down" pictures. They actually looked pretty good. Oh well. There were still quite a few nice ones. That day was also spent with preparation errands for Anime Boston, but I'll address those later.
Sunday the 16th, Leach's mom and younger sister arrived for a visit, which was both fun/helpful and stressful at the same time. Fun/helpful because we love spending time with them, and they helped keep an eye on Wiggles while I finished last-minute con preparation, but stressful for pretty much the same reason. Honestly, though, I don't think I would've been able to finish the fans for the convention if they hadn't been here to keep an eye on Wiggles for me. During their visit, we went to a nice restaurant for lunch and a nice bakery for dessert, watched Aladdin and Enchanted, and went to see a Lego art display down in Stamford, which was cool. The museum/nature park where the display was at also had a neat park that we'll have to go to again when Wiggles is older.
Then Thursday the 20th, we headed up to New Hampshire for Anime Boston. I'll write about that in a different journal entry, since it really deserves its own. Suffice it to say for now that it was awesome and lucrative. That Sunday was Easter, and Anki's parents were wonderful and even prepared an Easter basket for us even though they didn't need to. I'm glad we took them egg brunch and scones for dinner that Thursday night.
The following week was fairly quiet as I came down off of the convention high and tried to get back into a normal sense of order. Visiting teachers came Thursday and brought three small children with them, so Wiggles got an impromptu playgroup.
On April Fool's Day, Leach woke me up with the information that there had been a cold snap during the night and it had snowed a few inches. Which, honestly, wouldn't have surprised me at all. In my sleep-fogged state, I didn't even say "yay!" All I said was, "Oh, your poor plants." (Leach has some seeds he's trying to get sprout outside.) When I looked outside five minutes later, I commented, "Wow, that's some pretty invisible snow." Leach also made "green toast and ham" for breakfast (we were out of eggs).
Wiggles had an appointment that afternoon and was fairly well behaved. Her height's dropping down closer to the 85th percentile or something, but she's still growing well. She had to get two shots (it was supposed to be three, but there's a national shortage on the third apparently), and she also had to get blood drawn for a test of lead levels in her blood. She didn't like any of that, but the lab tech who drew her blood gave her a packet of graham crackers afterward, which made her happy.
I skipped a baby shower Thursday because Leach had something to do and couldn't watch Wiggles. I also ended up missing a double-shower during the convention, for obvious reasons. Friday was supposed to be the RS birthday party, but the building was double-booked and we got canceled.
Then this past weekend was General Conference. The internet behaved itself and let us actually watch it this time, and I got some drawing done during it.
In family news, Leach has a new calling. He's now the Ward Executive Secretary, meaning he gets to handle a lot of the planning stuff for the Bishopric. He hasn't been released from his calling as Elder's Quorum Secretary yet either, meaning he's quite busy right now. Poor guy. As for me, I've basically got a list of art projects to do right now and I'm trying to find a way to organize them. Additionally, I've got a few different business organizations I'm attempting to get info from. Belkin, for instance. Grr.
Wiggles is growing well. Her vocabulary's expanded beyond what I can easily keep track of, though not all of it is readily recognizeable without the object at hand to help us understand her. She also likes to repeat things we say, and knows "D" in addition to "O." My favorite is her method of counting: "Twooo, twooo, twooo...." Sometimes she changes it up with sounds that almost sound like "One" or "Three," but it's usually just the "Two" repeated. She repeats the "Clean up" sounds to me, though it's about as raspberry-like as her "Please." Her new favorite word is "Baby." She still doesn't walk, but we've caught her standing with no support for half a second at a time (not frequently, though), and tricked her into taking a single step without holding onto anything once. Her new favorite spot in the house is right at one of the living room windows. We put a box of diapers under the window so she could stand on it to look out. It's low enough that she can get up and down without help and I'm not worried about her falling and getting hurt, but it's still high enough that she can look out the window (without being high enough to risk her falling out the window). She also loves going outside and having Daddy swing her to kick a ball around.
As for watching things goes, I've already reviewed Enchanted before; it's just as good the second time around. I still have Pip mimicking Nathanial saying "It's good..." (offering the apple) stuck in my head. We finished the first season of The Muppet Show, and the episodes were, as usual, hit and miss. Though admittedly, the misses weren't too far off the mark. They might've still been on the dart board, even. I also watched some Duck Tales episodes on YouTube. I'd forgotten how fun (and dumb) they are. The most face-palmy moment was when I realized that the Beagle Boys never once remove their burglar masks and number placards (from being in prison). Ever. One impersonates a real estate agent, and despite wearing a fancy suit and hat and a fake mustache, he's still wearing the mask and number card. And no one notices. As far as reading goes, I managed to get the two Tsubasa volumes Anki gave me exchanged for the following two at B&N (she accidentally gave me two I already had) and read them. Dang, I need more. I also re-read the Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne manga (scanslations; yeah, I'm bad). Very sugary and girly, but I still like the story. Even if the theology gets weird by the end.
Anyway. I've got three fans leftover from the convention. I'll post their photos in a separate entry. For now, here's baby photos. ^__^
Wiggles shows off her pigtails.
Daintily playing the piano.
Daddy's little Goofball.
Wearing the lovely sweater Crazy Aunt Anki knitted for her.
Looking out the window.
There were also two Leach posted from the convention; I'm saving those for my convention report.
My con report and art post should be up soon.
