It starts as an average day. Perhaps you are at work, cooking some dinner, taking a walk, or simply getting ready for bed.
Then suddenly the fog sets in. The fog is so thick that it is almost impossible to see through, but you can just make out a
figure lost in its depths. You almost ignore the fog and keep focused on whatever you are doing.
But then you notice that the figure is…
You.
You try to stop yourself. You try to catch your attention to figure out what is going on. But this other you is deaf to your
calls and continues walking through the fog. So you decide to follow.
The next thing you know, you’re waking up in an unfamiliar bed in an unfamiliar room.
Welcome to your new home in Koan City, a sprawling metropolis surrounded by that same mysterious fog.
There is no leaving the way you came in, though. It seems you could be stuck here forever.
Well, that’s not entirely true. The mysterious people in charge of the island allow brief,
occasional trips to the outside world if you can afford a ticket on the public transit system.
You can even visit the home worlds of your new friends. Unfortunately, no matter which world you
visit, it seems like no one notices you. It’s like you’re invisible.
If you’re of the optimistic sort, this city can be seen as a new beginning, full of new friends and new opportunities.
A more pessimistic person may see the city for what it truly is - a massive cage.

Overseers will frequently experiment on residents of Koan City. Several will be mandatory for all or certain citizens, but most will be voluntary. For participating in experiments, you will be awarded credits to go towards major purchases like metro tickets home or moving to another district. Please give proof of your completion of the experiment, and your Cardinal One Bank account will be credited accordingly.

For 5,000 credits, you can take the metro out of the Arrosa District Station to your home world. If you can afford the ticket, Overseers encourage you to check up on your loved ones. You can bring your new Koan City friends along with you, or you can visit their home worlds, but you must be accompanied by a native escort. Please limit your trip to a few hours. Apply for a ticket at the Arrosa District Metro Station once you have accumulated 5,000 credits in your Cardinal One Bank Account. One ticket is good for a single one-way trip. When you are ready to come back, or if you stay longer than permitted, the fog will set in and return you to the Arrosa District Station.
Without you, your world cannot flow properly, so you will find yourself at the moment you left for Koan City, no matter how long you have spent away. Time will continue normally during your stay. When you leave, time will pause again until your next visit.
For some reason, you are completely unseen and unheard during your visit.Try as you might, there seems to be no way to communicate with anyone. You are as invisible and as silent as a ghost. Overseers apologize for this inconvenience and will inform all Koan City inhabitants if this changes in the future.
