Stargate Atlantis, episode 319 - Vengeance

Apr 21, 2007 00:52

Almost caught up with Stargate Atlantis. This was a bleak little episode - very good though. I still really like this show and I'm so happy to have a show that's remaining consistently good and not letting me down like Certain Other Shows. :P

I made way too many screen caps - mostly of Sheppard and Ronon :P Gah.

In this episode, Atlantis has lost contact with the Taranian settlement so Sheppard's team goes to investigate. They re-encounter Michael ...

Warning - I found myself in a John/Elizabeth mood when watching this episode. Sometimes I'm Ronon/Elizabeth, but this episode was very John/Elizabeth for me. In terms of friendships, I really loved Ronon and John together.

Beautiful Atlantis.

First shot, nicely enough is of Ronon :D

Ronon: (intensely) Eyes straight ahead, focus on me. Never ever look away from your enemy. Shows weakness. Are you weak?

Camera moves away from Ronon's dramatic manly visage to ..... Rodney dressed in what looks like a judogi and holding a stick. :D

McKay: Ah... no.

Ronon: Good. Are you ready?

McKay: Ah...

Ronon: Urgh!

Ronon hits Rodney in the stomach with his stick. Rodney bends over in pain

McKay: (in pain)
Ronon: McKay, what did I say? Don't take your eyes off of me. You gotta anticipate their next move. (Rodney still in pain). You all right?
McKay: Mmm
Ronon: All right, well we'll tie these up so I don't hurt ya. You're getting better.
McKay: Oh, really?
Ronon: No.

Elizabeth and John come in. I like how they come in together like that. The naughty part of me wonders whether they were snogging outside or something before they came in :)

Ronon's still alert.

They're so pretty together. I wish I knew how to photoshop them closer together.

Sheppard's all casual and lean-y :D

Sheppard: How are the ninja lessons going, Jet Li?

Rodney grimaces in pain again but again I like John and Elizabeth going off together. :D I'm sure they're going off for a quick pash outside ;)

When they arrive on the planet, they discover that the place is deserted. Sheppard says they'll have to go underground to look for them when Rodney detects a life sign.

Ronon finds the bodies of the Taranians. I was rather disturbed by the image of their bodies. It was very confronting and distressing.

Hero shots.

Ronon looking annoyed.

The team grossed out by the hand. Basically the people are all dead, the marines have vanished and Sheppard agrees with Teyla that they need to get out from underground where they're chasing around the mysterious Bug Creature. Ronon's not happy because he thinks that seems like they're retreating.

Ronon looks kind of long-suffering at John's Aliens reference. The episode really was very reminiscent of Aliens. I kept expecting them to find a body wrapped in a cocoon or something.

Sheppard: Alien. (Pause) The movie Alien, they used the air shafts to move around the ship.
McKay: And then systematically killed the entire crew one by one. Thank you for bringing that up.
Sheppard: They didn't kill em all

Not sure why but I just really liked these images of the four of them walking side by side. They're like heroic gun slingers of the Wild West.

When they're talking about the mating rituals or the Wraith, I have no idea why Ronon laughs and makes a kind of hand gesture.

Sheppard: If they wanted to create more Wraith, don't they usually get a male and female, you know, get a room?
McKay: It doesn't work that way with a Wraith, all right, at least we don't think it does. I'm not entirely sure as to the Wraith's reproductive methods.
Sheppard: I don't want to be around to watch that film.

The team find that the crystals have been removed from the control panel of the Stargate.

All are unimpressed.

Rodney and Teyla say stay at the Gate and wait. Sheppard says that they're going back underground to look for his men. Ronon's pleased at that decision.

He really does have the sweetest smile for such a big guy :)

At one point when they're under attack, Teyla's separate from the group and finds herself face to face with Michael.

Face off between Ronon and Sheppard.

Gratuitous screen cap of Ronon.

I really like Sheppard and Ronon as a team. I think they work well together. In a way I almost prefer their dynamic to Sheppard and McKay these days, probably because the overwhelming volume of McShep stuff has almost totally ruined their friendship for me. I find it very hard to find anything about the aspect of their relationship that I enjoy - which is their friendship.

Ronon and Sheppard as buddies is quite novel :)

I loved this confrontation between Ronon and Sheppard. It's rare that Ronon challenges his leader like this. Sheppard's told Ronon to set his gun to stun and Ronon doesn't want to. He said that he said at the time that the retrovirus was a mistake, that all along he's been opposed to it and now they're living with the consequences. I love the continuity, the fact that they haven't forgotten about the fact that their bad decisions have led to this state of affairs. Sheppard tries to protest but he realises that Ronon's right.

Michael and Sheppard have a confrontation. I understand Michael's anger and predicament. They experimented on him, he's not neither human nor Wraith and he has become shunned by his people. The problem is he has now killed a huge number of people and I suspect he may be beyond any form of redemption which I find rather troubling because I had liked his character. He also keeps popping up. I have decided that he is season 3's Ford :D

Sheppard looks cute here. :) Joe Flanigan has a long nose but it suits him. I really feel like reading more Sheppard/Novak fic or Thoughtcrimes fic :D Would you believe I'm writing a Thoughtcrimes/Angel: the Series cross over fic? I'm am sick :D

More Sheppard and Ronon.

They need to escape.

On the surface, they see a Wraith Dart.

Ronon: Michael's
Sheppard: No doubt
Ronon: You thinkin' what I'm thinking?
Sheppard: I fly it, pick you, Rodney and Teyla up. We use the Dart's DHD to dial the gate..
Ronon: I was thinkin' of blowing it up but your idea is better

*laugh*

Poor Ronon, surrounded by giant Bug Things. Fortunately Sheppard zaps him out in the nick of time otherwise those gorgeous bare arms of his could have been lost to us forever. Meep!

The team tell Elizabeth of what has happened and she is shocked and grieved.

Elizabeth struggles with the realisation that their actions have led to the death of the Taranians. The experiment on Michael has had tragic consequences, as has the ill-advised alliance with the Wraith. Sigh. Still, I always like it when Sheppard comes to Elizabeth's office to talk to her. These two always feel like equals to me. Equals in terms of intelligence, leadership ability, integrity and compassion.

I hope one day they get to have a pash when they're not possessed by alien beings.

Elizabeth says that Michael is already too dangerous and Sheppard says grimly that they're definitely not Michael's favourite people.
