Bones: New episode tonight. Yay!!! Woooohooo!! / Cutesy shippy names & fruitless searches for fic

Thanks to toomanysides for the article. Sorry, I got so excited I couldn't wait to post it :P. Some spoilers, but I lj-cut them. There's a new episode tonight after yet another annoying hiatus. It's called The Bodies in the Book (although some places seem to call it The Body in the Brook which is a wee bit different ;) One minor problem, I'm supposed to ( Read more... )

It's so nice to see the critics responding to Bones with as much enjoyment as I feel. It's not deep or Important, and I love it for that. It makes me smile, and some days that's the best possible thing on earth.

That's how I feel, too. It doesn't have to be worthy, gritty or preach to me about things with real life parallels :P It's funny, witty, the acting is terrific and the characters are lovable. That makes me happy!

Spangel? Bwahahaha! That sounds like some poly-blend fabric with which you make costumes for your 7 year old daughter's school rock eisteddfod. Unfortunately fandom seems to avoid writing about pairings that are an actual possibility, generally speaking anyway. Perhaps taking on an existing relationship that clearly shows the marks of the actual creator of the two involved characters can be a bit intimidating for people who just want to write for fun? Perhaps people think the 'real thing' is enough sustenance for those who ship canon relationships and focus their energies on situations that have no canon supply at all? In any case, Spike and Angel is a very weird for me to think about. Perhaps it's because my Buffy obsession was established long before encountering the internet-borne fanfic epidemic, but I'm not very good at thinking of any BtVS characters outside their prescribed partners. Tara/Willow/Oz, Anya/Xander/(Buffy)/Cordelia etcetc. I had a similar predicament with the Discworld fanfiction I tried to find recently: most ( ... )

Yup. I thought that Spuffy and Bangel were bad enough but when I saw Spangel, I had horrible visions of spandex, sequins and other glittery things. *shudder* Presumably Spike and Angel lived through and enjoyed the disco era :P

I know that might be it and given that I'm non-canon I should be more sympathetic of slash but I guess I'd like an even amount of slash/het, canon/non-canon in my fan fic. Some fandoms the slash fiction is really, really overwhelming and the Mary Sue in me wants to read the Het damnit! :D

I was on the Net during Buffy but never read fan fic but these days there seems to be a huge amount of Spike/Angel ( ... )

I watched a teeny bit of Bones tonight, I finally have the internet at home again and I like to have background noise on when I am on it. I only watched a little of it(I got a craving to listen to Jamie Lidell and I don't really need another show right now.plus if I add one I like to watch from the beginning)but I could tell that it really improved from the first season and that I might like it. so when my other shows are in re-runs I may torrent it from the beginning. one thing that was weird to me though is how much this Sully guy(that's his name right, Sullivan?) reminds me of David Boreanaz. he kind of reminded me of DB combined with Craig Sheffer.

I love Spike/Buffy but off hand I can't name any good fic with them. the BTVS Writers' Guild has a ton of links to lots of fic: archives. of course it's a lot to look through but there's volume and links to site just devoted to Spike/Buffy.

Why are almost all of my fandoms dominated by slash fic?it's funny how some fandoms are awash in slash and others aren't. like with VMars, it's 99 ( ... )

*cuddles your icon, particularly Tortured Spike*

Yes! It's great! It's true that the first half or so of season one was a bit shaky - I think the show and the actors were still finding their feet but by two bodies in a lab / man in the morgue the show really picked up and the character interactions and the dialogue is simply wonderful!

That was was why I was a bit gobsmacked not to find more fic. So far the only really good fic I've found is The Butterfly Effect which is really amazing.

it's funny how some fandoms are awash in slash and others aren't. like with VMars, it's 99 percent het, it's hard to be a slasher in that fandom. and when there is slash it's frequently stuff like Logan/Dick, which makes me a ( ... )

Bahahahaha, true. I suppose the VM pairing has a very Strong Established Ship.... Lick? Gack. I suppose BSG is largely het as well.

yeah, I think it's due to the overwhelming popularity of Logan/Veronica that there just isn't much slash around. at first in the fandom there was some Logan/Weevil but it's died down I think probably since we hardly ever see Weevil anymore. there also used to be some more Mac/Veronica, which I never read but I kind of see where people get it from. hee, Logan/Lamb, I've read some but I only found it because I have probably read every Lamb-centered fic there is out there, though there are a few I stopped reading because the characterizations were so way off. I even found a few with Lamb/Keith references;)

I actually love Spike/Angel but I hate the name Spangel as well as Bangel and Spuffy. aack. ah, yes the Spike/Angel reference-more of a joke than anything else, from Power Play, ep 5x21:

True, although there was definitely scope for the slashy imagination if one wanted eg. the Weevil and Logan detention. There was quite a lot of sparkage there and I'd have found a Weevil / Logan pairing one of the more plausible of the slash pairings out there.

Hee! You are so cute!!! :D I totally know what it's like to support a pairing that almost no one else does. You become a very good finder of crumbs. :D

Spike/Angel

Thanks for that quote - it was hilarious. Also, I've seen 3 eps of Angel season 5 and even in just those episodes, I can totally see where the slash vibe comes from. I'm too overwhelming het in my shippiness to ever ship them but they totally have the banter and Spike even jokes to the necromancer that he's Angel's date and he shows up in Angel's bedroom when Angel's half naked in bed to chat to him!!! :D

I don't watch SPN, but I ( ... )

Why are almost all of my fandoms dominated by slash fic?

Blame Star Trek and housewives who needed hobbies. They started it all.

I can recommend you our Better Buffy Fiction Archive. It's hand-picked and searchable (you can search by gen/het/slash, by character, pairing, or story length).

Thank you so much. Stupid me, I clicked on that archive before and got a dead link - I realise now that the site / the domain where the site is located is blocked by the PRC government. It's only now that I'm going through a proxy when I click on the link that I see that there's actually an archive there :D
