Some years ago when I was one of the people supporting the company email program, we had an open offer concerning chain mails: if you get one and don't feel right about not passing it along, send it to us and we'll break the chain for you.

I don't pass along even the well-meant ones, because the vast majority are a combination of social engineering and emotional blackmail, and there's no easy cut-off point.

I can't speak to the origins of current computer viruses, but I do know that an awful lot of the spam I receiver nowadays (my discussion board is still being attacked day and night) seems to originate from Russia or Italy rather than Asia, despite the stereotypes.

(Skating swiftly over the drabbles as I'm a couple of episodes behind on BSG and don't want to be spoiled. Must get caught up soon.)

My computer forensics professor confirmed that most of the phising scams and viruses do come from Russia. So China should definently be cut some slack!

Oh no I'm so sorry. I should have labelled the post as spoilery. I was so angry about virii and chain mail that I forgot. I hope you didn't see much - given that they were only 100 words, not much was given away I hope :D

Hee. No problem, no need for apology, and no spoilers seen. (Of course, now you've got me curious.) I'm quite good at reading headers but not the text below them.

Darn it, now your icon has got me wanting to upload another Wallace and Gromit icon. I got a really good capture of Gromit peeking from between his "fingers" yesterday.

I get chain letters even in my student email account, and on myspace. I think we all should be dead more then a dozen times because every chain letter says that if you don't resend it, you will die some horrible death caused by some (no doubt) fictional person who also suffered a horrible death (my personal favorite is the girl who was killed by the serial killer, and if you don't send the message, she will come through your window, from under your bed, out of your closet, or from the drain in the shower, to kill you.) Humph. Some people just have way too much time on their hands!
On a happier note, I'm sad that I didn't bring my camera with me to campus, because then I could send you some absolutly lovely snow pic spam.

Chain letter proliferators should be squished. :P And O snow. Apparently it showed in China when I was back in Australia but now all that remains are tiny little patches of grubby black ice in weird corners of the city :D 'tis sad tis sad

Oh that is sad. All that remains of the snow now are traces in the higher hills and rooftops... and of course ice on the road

But the delete button / trash button never seems to be able to keep up with it. As soon as I delete one, o there's another and another!

oh dear... the problem is you can't put them into the spam folder, because often they are good friends that send them to you. *sigh*

Hang in there *holds koala's hand*

Then today I got my first youtube chain letter telling me about some girl going to America in 1945 and if I didn't onforward the message to three other youtube members then at the next full moon some creature was going to break into my house and I'd have my soul stolen.

I snorted! The hilarity of the internet.

Though it IS really annoying. I hatehateHATE spam on my email accounts telling me to refinance my mortgage or to SATISFYMYINNERPASSI0NATEDESIRES. Sadface.

I know :P I thought it was bad when I was getting email spam. But then in youtube? I was actually surprised I didn't get more LJ spam - just one so far advertising something weird

Not sure where you're up to, so it's set in season 1 after Helo shot Sharon :D I went 21 words over but I didn't think you'd mind.

Fight or run away?

Sharon glanced over at Helo. He wouldn't look at her. She knew that she could knock him out and escape.

Her heart ached more than the wound. Her eyes travelled down to Helo's blood stained hands. It was her blood. He said he hated her but his eyes had said something quite different as he had bound up the wound that he had caused.

"Don't beat yourself up about it. I told you to do it," Sharon shivered in the rain.

"I told you to shut up," Helo said tersely. "I'm not asking for your forgiveness."

"You have it anyway."

Sharon stared into Helo's face. Fight. There was no other choice. This man was worth the sacrifice.

You are far, far too kind! That was a rather insightful drabble, that's what I like about your drabbles actually. Rather than describing just what's going on, you give us a peek into the character's head.

And I finished up to the second part of Kobol's Last Gleaming. I'm rather afraid to delve in the second season due to excessive angstiness!
