Garth Nix: Recap and renewal of my adoration for the Old Kingdom series (updated)

Feb 02, 2006 13:02

I love Garth Nix's Old Kingdom series the most out of all his books. I know that there are other Garth Nix fans out there who read my livejournal but to date despite occasional random posts, I have not really engaged in a discussion on livejournal about Garth Nix whom I adore. I feel bad for neglecting the series - hence I even went and stole a ( Read more... )

Garth Nix's, Old Kingdom, serise is REALLY good. I LOVE IT!!! Have you seen the book covers with the characters on it instead of the charter signs? You know what? I can't wait until they make a movie out of these books. Might take awhile but it'll be TOTALLY worth it.

Yay another fan! :)

I have seen those covers - they were the only ones I could find in Hong Kong. I prefer the covers of the books I have though with the Charter marks because they often make Sabriel look like scary crazy woman with white face and long black hair - or something out of an Asian ghost movie :D

I really hope they make a movie of the series, too although some parts of the series are so scary. I'm personally extremely terrified of the Dead and Chlorr. In Abhorsen, I was almost dying of suspense and terror in the final battle. I had a crush on Francis Tindall (very minor character!) and I was so afraid he was going to die ... :)

I feel bad for Lirael since she lost her hand. :( But yes, the movie would probably be rated PG-13. Scarey stuff little kids might not want to see. XD At first I thought Lirael and Sam were going to end up together (when I felt naughty and flipped though sections of the book). Eh... then I found they were aunt and nephew, I kindda ditched the idea.

I'm a BIG fan of the serise. Last year, a friend and I did all of our book reports on the serise. I can't wait to read Garth Nix's other books. I heard the other ones are pretty good too but I like this trilogy the best.

When I was thirteen (whoa ten years ago now) a friend bought me a book for my birthday (John Marsden's Tomorrow, When the War Began), but I already had it. So she returned it and bought Sabriel for me instead. So I only received this book sort of by accident, and I read it and I loved it. I spent years living in hope that Garth Nix would write a sequel, and I never honestly thought that he would but every week I would check the bookstore near my house (this was before I was using the internets and such), and then one day a few years ago I was passing a bookstore (I'd long given up hope by this point), and I noticed it in the kids' book section.

Longest sentence ever, the summation of which is: Sabriel is one of my most favourite books ever. And I wrote Sabriel fic, once. I think. I should try and find it.

But does this mean you have or have not read Lirael and Abhorsen? I loved Abhorsen as well - the conclusion is just so suspenseful and terrifying.

I would LOVE to read your Sabriel fic. Please share! :)

Oh! Yes, I've read them - I've not yet picked up the latest one (I can't even remember what it's called), with all the Nicholas stuff in it, but I've read Abhorsen and Lirael. I really enjoyed Abhorsen, but I'll admit that my interest in the Old Kingdom for the most part surrounds Sabriel and Touchstone. It's a bit like my Narnia obsession in a way - in Narnia, I'm interested in that time when the Pevensies are Kings and Queens and reforming the kingdom and all that, and that's where my interest lies in the Abhorsen universe.

Oh, wow, now I want to read Abhorsen fic.

I found the fic I wrote - I wrote it for Yuletide 2004. It's A Time For, and it's not the best thing I've ever written but I still like it.

Found this while perusing the Abhorsen trilogy community. ^^ A bit sad I can't read your awesome discussion but it's always good to see another fan. I first read Sabriel in my little junior high school library and 10 years later am still in love with it. The rest of the Trilogy is just as nice, though I would wish there was a companion or such to explain the world. Garth Nix hints at so much!

Oh I locked the old post because I made new posts about Garth Nix. They're here in case you're interested :D

I really wish he'd write more - for a male writer, he's so good at writing likeable females.
