If anyone on my friends list gets to see Narnia, would they please pander to this spoilery koala and give me a really detailed spoilery review of it? :) I've read all the books umpteen times anyway but I know that some people have scruples about spoiling others - I always read the ending of books and
The Movie Spoiler is my friend...., but
The Movie Spoiler never gives me all the details that I want.
For the record, as I've said before - I promise not to spoil others. That being said, I had to laugh when a girl blamed my brother and said: "Gee, thanks a lot for spoiling it for me and telling me that they both die in Romeo & Juliet". Errrrr.
I've checked the cinema webpages here and it appears certain that Narnia is not coming to Beijing, at least this year. China only permits a quota of a certain number of foreign films per year (increased last year from 10 to 20 films). You can read about it
here. Darnit - they let Legend of Zorro through - that spot could have been given to Narnia. (*seethe*) The quota applies to not just Hollywood but all foreign films - including Taiwan, Macau and Hong Kong so the number that gets through in the end is not very large (darnit, they also let through that terrible Dennis Quaid Flight of the Phoenix movie, yet another slot that could have been given to Narnia!).
There's always the illicit DVD market but lately I've had bad luck and they've been cam jobs rather than dvd quality. Sometimes even a decent cam job will do but for some reason, I am cursed with pirates who always sit behind Women With Large Hair or women with the audio equivalent of large hair (loud laughter) which very much detracts from the experience. I suppose it's better than my bro who was once given a copy of a cam job of A Bug's Life on dvd and the movie pirate apparently fell asleep while filming so the camera filmed the back of the seat in front of him for half an hour until he woke up again. Pirates, no work ethic ...
