Voldemort /Walmart - the connection is proved! ;)

Lawks! In my post Watching《哈利·波特与火焰杯》 Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in Beijing, I said:
Voldmort's name is transliterated - he is 伏地魔 Fu Di Mo. There's no 'vo' sound in Chinese and I was wondering why they didn't go for 'wo' but then I realised that Voldemort would sound too much like the Chinese word for Walmart.

At the time, muridae_x commented: "I suppose it might take you right out of the story, but certainly there's an equivalence of evil there. ;-)"

muridae_x with her super-amazing sleuthing skills has since discovered that we have proof positive of a link between the two of them - albeit with a go-between in the shape of Lucius Malfoy ....... Forbes Fictional Fifteen reports:
His stock portfolio has also fared well. Most wizards eschew "Muggle" markets, preferring to invest in Goblin mutual funds or Niffler futures. But Malfoy bucks the trend, holding shares in a variety of companies, including Wal-Mart Stores (nyse: WMT - news - people ), Microsoft (nasdaq: MSFT - news - people ) and Halliburton (nyse: HAL - news - people ).

"I am constantly on the alert for opportunities to exploit you filthy Muggles," he told us nearly seven years ago (see: “Malfoy’s Malicious Methods” Forbes, Mar. 21, 1999).

You can read all that and more for yourself here. Many thanks to muridae_x for the lead! I always knew that there was evil there - well in the Beijing Walmart anyway.
