Oh, Koala, your posts about this horrid tragedy have brought tears to my eyes...

I think the thing that breaks my heart the most is what you focused on in this post: that he will not know a loving embrace before he dies, and that his mother will not be able to touch or hold her child, her son, before he is executed. That he should go to his death without a loving touch kills me.

Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention. I wish I could do something for you to ease your pain at this poor man's terrible fate. Since I can't, I can just say that I support you in this 100%. It's just too cruel.

I hope your exams go well.

*hugs you tight*

Thanks for posting the information about that petition. I've signed it. There is a lot of anger here in Australia about the situation, but what's disappointing is the number of people who (a) don't care; or (b) think he deserves what's coming to him. Not that anger or apathy is going to stop anything from happening. I've been a little suprised by how angry John Howard has got over the situation - I've never had any time for him, but he's really appeared to be quite upset about it. Sadly not quite upset enough to support an appeal to the International Court of Justice though.

That really gets me .... Australians should be the last people in the world to support the death penalty .... Yes the guy did the wrong thing, yes he broke the law and was incredibly stupid - but since when should someone get hanged for being stupid? It's just such an inhumane way to punish someone who looks as though he could be rehabilitated. Sorry I didn't mean to froth.....

I've also been surprised by how affected Nguyen's lawyer is - normally QCs are fairly hardened ( ... )

This is the type of situation that can hurt the realtionship between Aust and Sing for years to come, not to mention destroy politicians carrers. Because oponets can use it an an issue. ie. you didn't do enough. It just is stupid all around.
