I'm disgusted by what they did, and in my LJ I linked to an article that talked about it much more intelligently and coherently than I can. In the end I think it comes down to the writers being utterly tone deaf when it comes to characterization and unable to handle the shades of gray GRRM specializes in, mixed with their love of sex and - especially - sordid sex. I think they completely misunderstood the books, the characters and their own viewership. I hope it comes back to bite them in their arrogant asses.
