Microblogging is killing places like livejournal

It makes me sad. Don't get me wrong. I have FB, I like tumblr for the pretty and I also cast my eye over twitter now and then, although I have never really cared much for twitter ( Read more... )

Still here!

I agree, I liked the long discussions Livejournal facilitates.

Our numbers are dwindling though. If it wasn't for ohnotheydidnt there wouldn't be any activity at all on my friends page!!

Totally agree. I don't feel like even posting much on lj these days cause no one comments.

And I have no desire to get into tumblr for the same reasons as you. I see someone post about something interesting to me but responses are a 'like' or 'repost' and if there are real comments conversations are impossible to follow.

Twitter, while i'm on it I never post anything, just follow various actors. And even then I rarely go to twitter anyway.

I think writing LJ posts was more brain-intensive for me ... it made me actually think about how I felt about things instead of just clicking like or reblog. I've decided that even if no one is reading/commenting, I think I need to still keep posting about things I've read/seen/feel because it makes me sad that journalling seems to have become a lost pass-time.

I miss interacting with people on LJ, too. I can't get the hang of tumblr and twitter, everything's moving so fast there, and it's all so impersonal, I don't know how people make new connections there or stay connected.

At least a few times a month I contemplate posting to my LJ, but I never actually do it, because most of the people who used to read me aren't here anymore. If everyone does the same, no wonder the place is quiet. It's like a vicious circle of inactivity.

I might try posting a few short things for a couple of weeks, to test how it feels again :)

So many of the communities I follow are dead or closing up shop because of the lack of posts. It's really upsetting to be honest. I know I should try to archive my journal in case LJ itself closes up shop but none of the archiving features works for me!

Please post again - it would be good to be reading new posts on LJ again. I will definitely be posting because I have the rest of season 4 of Nikita to write about and I'd like to backpost on previous episodes, too :)

I love tumblr for the shiny things it provides, but you cannot have a conversation there and it is filled with people looking to be outraged at the slightest provocation. I miss LJ, like, a lot, and I am always so happy when I stumble across a new Koala post! *hugs*

I agree. I find I waste a lot of time looking at pretty pictures on tumblr but I miss the days of writing things and talking about them. LJ takes more effort but it made me think more.

Fortunately I have Nikita to inspire me right now. Not sure where you got up to but I ended up loving all of the characters and the Michael/Nikita dynamic has stayed strong and has not let me down!

I have also posted about this. It's a pity really. I don't want LJ to go and I'm trying to remain here as much as I can... but people are leaving and that's what we can't control. I wish we had a way to make them change their minds... Actually tumblr, twitter or similar don't offer the choice of privacy or a proper way to communicate with a determined group... *sigh*

Anyway, although I don't follow Nikita, I'm happy to see you posting!!! ^^
