It's just so appalling to think of Castiel (whom I like) in the same universe as Baltar (whom I loathe)

Aww.

Still, think of it this way: the unattractive symptoms of their decline apart, they don't have much in common. Castiel falls apart because he's lost his faith - in God, in the other angels, even in future!Dean. He distracts himself because he no longer has an anchor, and doesn't have much of a rudder left either.

Baltar never had faith in anything in the first place. (Except himself, obviously.)
